Removed the sail panel trim and old roll bar vinyl. Started sanding the roll bar and inner sail panels so I can get them painted before I install the new vinyl, roll bar pad, and GT Lid.

Was able to score one of Ben's early "quiet" 914-6 mufflers, but the tailpipe was oriented for a valance without cutout:

Ordered up a 90bend 2.5 SS pipe, cut and welded on. Used my little flux core welder with SS wire. It did okay, my welds mostly cleaned up. Can't see them anyway. I didn't want to buy wire and bottle for my regular Mig welder so the flux core seemed the best option.

I've been trying to get a car started that hasn't run in 7 years. First found the fuel pump seized. Managed to get the motor unstuck, then it pumped fuel out every orifice. Must not have been a seal that wasn't shot.

Installed an Airtex E8445 pump, but twisted off one of the studs when connecting the wiring to the pump. The screw never got anywhere close to tight, so I have no idea what kind of playdough the brass studs were made with. Really disappointing. I was able to get the pump to run long enough to verify I had the pressure and return lines reversed up top.

If it's not one thing, it's another...

I have been running airtex pumps for years with no issues.

The airtex pump has different size studs on it. Did you use the right nut for the stud size?

You could have used your reg 75/25 mix and SS wire on the tailpipe. Good job. That looks much better with the tailpipe in the correct spot. I just did that myself but it was with the old crusty steel. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Now that the box is almost done I went over the top again to clean up the scratches on it. It turned out really well. The tool I used is in the background.

Then I did some work on the electrical of the fan box. Getting ready to run wires to the switches on the dash.

Finished mocking up my rear trunk latch "manual pull". I have an inoperable solenoid and a Porsche Reflector where the trunk lock should be. I don't want to fool with a solenoid, and wanted to make it as easy and full-proof as possible.

I need to clean it up a bit, and redo the ferrules, get rid of the black tape, etc., but it works great.

My driver's side mirror was loose and images blurred when driving. So I ordered the 914 Rubber kit and replaced both pieces and the mirror is nice now. Here is a pic of what was in there.

Drove it a bit. This high 90s Temps did not do wonders for my carbs tuning.. I think I was ending up with a bit of perkalation.. float levels maybe to high.

Brought in for inspection.
Mechanic gets in car and tries to back out. Asks “where is reverse?”
Backs it up. Asks “where is first?”
Stalls on the way into the garage.
15min comes around the corner and asks “where is the gas filler?”
Finished the inspection and we passed.
Mechanic says “how about you back it out?”

I'm both working on the 914 and not working on it at the same time.
I'm rebuilding the transaxle on the 914 and the transmission for my son's 280z. I'm pretty sure I can't mix up the parts.

So my driver’s side window was binding and making a horrible grinding sound when partially rolled up. Pulled the door panel off and could not find anything out of sorts. Cleaned and re-greased all the potential binding areas and ran window up and done still binding. I then noticed that the rear window track seemed loose. Turns out the upper sheet metal screw had fallen out and was wedged about a third of the way done the track. Removed and reinstalled. Window works like butter. Clutch cable needed adjustment, and then a test drive.

Just finished driving the '74. Hadn't taken it out in about 3 weeks so, before my wife I and I leave for vacation today, I gave it some love.
Just once around the valley, so about 40 minutes but, it was fun and relaxing.
A perfect way to start the time off!
