And I was about to say ... they may only look good in a car that's had the fender for the turn signals shaved (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif)
I don't think that car looks so bad. Maybe needs front turn signals, but it looks okay. |

Aluminum trunk skins save a little weight. Use 20ga aluminum with tin so it won't bend at high speeds. Peel your steel skin off, flaten the edges and use for a pattern. The doors can be done the same way, just a lot of work where the door handle and vent window post are. For the door handle use two 2X4 with a c section cut out to match the shape of the handle. clamp the aluminum between the 2X4s and work the shape with hammers and put a lip on it with vise grips. It sounds simple and is after the second or third set. Use 3M metal to metal bonder. While you have the door skin off you can cut the guard rail out. I'll be doing a few sets soon and I'll try to get some pictures of how it's done so you can save weight and a $1000.00 a set. |

Sorry, I should have been more specific.. That's a pic of numero quattro.. same lenses as the 914-8. They're at a different angle and longer than stock 914 lenses, so a direct copy won't work. That side marker light is just an aftermarket add-on. The look of the turn signal lens is what I'm after. I plan to weld up my side marker light holes. |

I'd thought about taking side-markers from a Saab 9-5/9-3 and using them. It's just a 1" hole, and the light snaps in. comes with the gasket. Available in Clear or Amber. $19 a set. |

Me loves 924/GT's (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wub.gif)
I always though that you could build one up fairly cheap. Imagine this... you can buy a 924 for what, $400 bucks? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/confused24.gif) Strip it to a bare tub. Install a roll cage or a bar. A couple of racing seats. Felt line the floor. Make up some RS type panels. Get all the glass parts from GT. Do something ?? to the engine and paint'er up. Polar 50:50 weight distribution. Awesome track car... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/beer.gif) Me no love those headlights on a teener... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/blink.gif) |

Since I plan to use whatever this lightweight turns out to be on public roads, as well as some AX, I do not want to compromise safety. So door reskinning is likely out. But other panels are fair game. Likely FG instead of aluminium or CF. |

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/agree.gif) I initially thought "it might look "O.K."" but after seeing the phot shop pic I really like it. How about with one more red light on the inside and the orange moved out closer to the corner? Similar to a Ferrarri Daytona (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/w00t.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/aktion035.gif) I would probably be in for a set either style if the price was good. |

Having done this today, I am about 97% certain that my car will be getting this treatment when I get around to starting on it! Bend a piece of 18ga. to follow the contour and weld in to make it one piece with the body!!! It's done baby (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/aktion035.gif) This will definitly go with the look I am going for.

I didn't promise anything... but I did offer a starter kit. The problem with flush headlights is not enough vertical space. I have yet to see a HEADLIGHT under the DOT legal 90mm. All the rice crap is fog/driving lights, but still, there is only 2-2.5" of space to work in. So unless you want to cut/modify your bumper and forward edge of the bucket or go bugeye, your SOL for good night visability. I never built a low profile popup cause they'll run about $650-700, no serious interest, and I'm actually very happy with the H-4s already on my car... What a GT should have been! Totally changing the interior, real 911 dash, sport seat type bolsters, carbon fiber trim, 16-17" wheels, cleaned up body lines, "small" stuff that will make a big impact. This will be my second show (and go) car, first one in about 13 years though. |

I've never really been fond of the eyebrows on the 914, or the way the headlights look from the front view (kinda droopy).
I'd like to see someone do a better job of extending the headlight cover to fill in the eyebrow than what was done on the Chalon bodykit. They basically just transplanted the eyebrow to the headlight cover which gives the car a kind of surprised look when the lights are up. I think to do it right you need to move the whole headlight forward, more like a BMW 850. Or maybe do a 928 headlight transplant? The headlights are probably the thing I like best about that car after the engine. |

I had something like that on my old teener, you don't want it... the 914 hood does not slope enough, so you have to cut into the bumper to make it work... mine came like that so I didn't have a choice... but it was horrible. the thread going right now where Neo914 is making HID lights in the turn signals may work though... I'm hoping it does anyway |
