The Vintage Auto Racing Association is having their annual Porsche-Alfa Shootout in Las Vegas November 1 - 2. Is anybody else going to be here?
(IMG:http://www.vararacing.com/2003%20Photos/Jeff-Saltman-Memorial-1Med.jpg)Jeff was a good friend that I usually pitted with. We both had the same mechanic. He raced the # 155 Porsche 912. He will be greatly missed.

Sorry Jeroen. Nothing Porsche related that week (that I know of). The PCA has an open track day on the 2nd in Pahrumph. The SEMA is a cool show. Lots to see and do. Have your friend call me at (702) 259-9970 if I can help him with anything.

Anybody else comming to town for SEMA?
Dinner at Hooters one night that week?

VegasRacer,
is Jeff Saltman the porsche club racer that took his own life?

Did you know Jeff Saltman away from the track?
Would you mind sharing an enjoyable memory that you have of Jeff, with us here?

Jeff lived in Phoenix and had strong contacts in Las Vegas. Jeff did not take his own life. He truely loved life and enjoyed living it. He was not the type of person to ever do something so selfish to end it at his own hand. Jeff was diagnosed with a brain tumor a year ago. He had some good months and some set backs before he went to the 'big race track in the sky' a few months ago. Jeff and his brother Mike raced the yellow 912 as well as a very sweet black 356. They raced for fun and family. Mike ownes several Doc Holliday's bars. They always provided free breakfast for the racers one morning at the VARA events. Jeff was serious about having fun. How can you not respect a guy who had the resources to race what he wanted but picked a 912. I can not think of a single memory where he was not smiling. He was know for going out of his way to help others. It was truely an honor to have him save me a spot next to his pit. His space was always active with cute girls and racers stopping by to get a boost from his positive attitude. Jeff liked the way I used a screw in 914 tow eye on the front of my car. I gave him my spare and he made the same welded bracket on his yellow car.

Blake - I'll give ya a call when you are here.

Brain Tumors are tough. My dad died from one, but he only lasted one month, due tot he aggressiveness of his type of cancer. Im glad yor friend kept a positive outlook to the end.

"Jeff did not take his own life."

VegasRacer,
I certainly meant no disrespect with my question whether Jeff had taken his own life. But
that Memorial to him made me think that someone on this board had mentioned a
club-racer who had taken his life.
My question was more of a wonder, if Jeff had been that person.

I hope you did not take my question as offensive, I certainly didn't mean it to be that way.

Scott - I did not find anything offensive by your sincere question.
I was touched by your request for more personal information about him.
Thanks for you concern about Jeff.
I did have a my best friend take his own life several years ago.
Perhaps my grief from that loss was hidden in my reply.

Chris - Sorry to learn of your dads passing.
I am glad he did not suffer long as some do.

Renegade Hybrids will basically be having an open house if he has any interest in conversions. They will have snacks and will be there to shoot the breeze.

I'm going to SEMA Wednesday and/or Thursday. I've been going back and forth whether to fly or drive. I'll probably try to nail a flight down for Wednesday morning, find a cheap (yet decent...) hotel, and fly back Thursday late afternoon.

John,

Is the VARA race going to be on the Outside course, or inside the oval?

The VARA race will be on the outside road course.
They have redesigned the track (again).
There goes my home field advantage.
The course is now 2.39 miles long.
The last version was 1.75

My *home* tracks are Laguna Seca & Sears Point, being only 90 minutes away from them.

I've also been to Thunderhill, Buttonwillow, Riverside & to the Ca Speedway, which is a
REAlly nice facility.

What is the Vegas Speedway like?

YOU must be involved in the Automotive business to be allowed into SEMA, right?

I have some paperwork somewhere that indicates that you can qualify to join SEMA (and attend the SEMA to-do in Vegas) if you can document you own/operate a racing team.

A nice letterhead accompanying some race results was described as adequate.

Anyone have more info?

Computer consultant that does website, sometimes automotive related. My regular business card has gotten me in each time. IMO, if you pay the big bucks to get in, they aren't all that picky if you give them -something-

Replacing the transmission seal in my car.
The soft rubber seal had changed into a hard plastic leaking POS.

The freshly rebuilt motor is running GREAT.

The new layout of the track is a BLAST.
