So I'm sure some of you have shipped a motor recently. What is required? drain oil, strap to pallet with what kind of strap. Who to contact for shipping? How much about for Everret to Pascagoula?

Had one shipped from California to here. The guy I bought it from built a crate for it. (About $25) Couple 2 X 4's on edge. Plywood bottom . Holes drilled for the straps. Plywood sides & top. Could be loaded with a fork lift. Protected it from accidental knocks. Oil drained. Cinch straps (Home Depot). Think the freight was $200 (CDN) It came up here in the back of a semi with a load of icecream.

My flathead arrived on a pallet and was strapped with cinch straps, and covered with an Army surplus blanket?

Isn't Forward Air the place that only takes cash, unless you have an account set up with them? (fuzzy memory of an earlier thread)

NO CASH, I thought "WIERD" first time I went there. Anyway they require a Postal Money Order, at least the one that I have been to here in PDX.

Many places don't take cash for shipping anymore, they had a problem with getting middle-eastern names mixed up in shipping.

Joe,
Just shipped a basic 2.0L engine (no FI, or sheet metal) using FedEx Freight. I built a small 30" x 18" pallet for it from $8 worth of 1x2's. No plywood needed. I then covered it with this plastic wrap sold by U-Haul. The FedEx guy loved it. And they prefer not to take cash. You can call the nearest FedEx Freight and they will fax you a quote you use, then provide driver with a check to match quote. I suggest calling because the on-line quote came out to be more in my case. Good luck. |
