Thanks.
I've made some progress though I have yet to post the pix. I went to order another quantity of paint but could not find the receipt with the mix code.Yesterday went there with a label from the can,and the guy wasn't there. Hello all
Thought I'd share some pix of relevance. A snow-hog in a frisky mood taken this past spring. A gearbox for cable circa '07(my trade) At night the painted sky entertains those who are without tv. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) |

Hello All.
A discovery in what not do do to your 914. If you look closely at the last pix you will see the strip of sticking plaster tape across the rear window. In a misguided attempt at securing a tarp,a po has that stuff, now aged, all over the bottom of the rollbar. Time To Remove:4hrs.A pita totally unneeded as was the removal of the "undercoating spray". A few minutes handy work with a can made for a marathon effort in a spacesuit. Method. 1:spray "Gunk Brake Cleaner" on 6"x6" area of trunk. 2:before the rapid evaporation, wipe with papertowel. 3:Repeat 1>3. TTR:22hrs. The results made it all worth it somehow and I am pleased to discover it was an attempt at preservation rather than disguise.I heated then pulled the factory sealer from the bottom corner to find real steel. TaDa. Much much more to do.>> Under the Infrared A Fuzzy Photo |

Should be easy to pop the heads off those things and clean/inspect/rebuild them. (As your budget and inclination to tinker dictate.) They're pushrod motors, like the Type IV and the Bug motors, so the valve train is not that complex like in the 911 engines.

Long ago I wrenched a 4spd toploader into my 66 Mustang Coupe,
Gold w Perfect black int.289 2bbl.Circa '73.Even then the car was a rustout.Floors, rockers, quarters, windowsills ...worse than my '62 Bug.I still have an affinity to the cars, but, for my next act a 914-C6 is IT. Having some 40yrs of machinery building experience,I will now endeavour something never tried with the Corvair. It may actually be as simple as adapting recyclers production parts.Definitely they will be my prime source. However,a first example must be produced before any further Talk. A little off topic, but I thought one of you who have made the
944/LS conversions jump might like this look. A bit of work smoothing /fitting here or there could change the "face" of the downtrodden 924/924T/944/951.The world's tastes have changed in the 20+ years since they were marketed. I may not have the time for this project for a few years. |

This am began the removal of heads sequence.
Dose all exposed studnuts with RustBuster. Allow soak time,24-48 hrs. Carefully grip case end of stud with modified vise-grip. Apply torque gradually to squeak. Apply more RustBuster. Apply torque gradually to squeak. Apply more RustBuster. Apply torque gradually to squeak. Apply more RustBuster. Fully release torque on all head studs. Success! Only one stud moved in the cases,5 degrees. Apply RustBuster to cylinder/heads joint to soak into 24-48 hrs. to be continued... |

The crank cranks freely until interference with dislodged carbon deposits. All pistons undamaged, bores are free of rust. Some PO installed these race plugs. Heavy carbon deposits resulted. Fuzzypix Retracted gap plugs,5of6 Apply more RustBuster, wait till timer tings. |

Looks like a great start. Rick Well after all this time of lurking about and discovering the unknown realm of 914W,it's high time to Do. A timeline resultant is May'14. Much to do: Sand entire car exterior. I started at the rear simply because of the easy access. We pushed it in forward when we arrived on the flatbed. The second T-Lid done on top. 2K Primed,Ready for some Heat. Cooking 2K primer w Ifrared. A Dust coat flashing off. An early colour experiment. Navy. Attached image(s) |

Anyone here with experience with this new and improved efi system?
http://www.diyefi.org/ or http://rusefi.com/ or http://www.k-data.org/kdfi-1-4-basic.html something to consider. |

Anyone here with experience with this new and improved efi system? http://www.diyefi.org/ or http://rusefi.com/ something to consider. Both are off-shoots of Megasquirt. Looks like they are backwards compatible. |
