I know it's only a day after WCR 2009, but now that I have a running and driving 914, I'm already getting ready for WCR 2010.
Being that next year is the 40 anniversary of the 914, my suggestion would be to do it up big and in Las Vegas. Plenty of rooms and lots of different options for activities. I know its a long drive for the PNW guys (its long even from Sacramento), but being that its Vegas, I'm thinking it will be worth it. Any other ideas being thrown around? I'd be happy to help plan or help out in any way! |

First of all I think Tahoe and Medford are great venues. The only other one I can think of that may be better is...................
MONTEREY! Cool weather, great drives, Golf, plenty of tourist stuff for families like the Aqaurium, Cannery Row, 17 mile drive, wine tasting in the Carmel Valley. etc. and of course.............................LAGUNA SECA and Marina airport AutoX venue!!!!!!!!! About 400 miles closer than Irvine for the PNW folks. 350 miles from SoCal, 900 miles from Seattle, 90 miles from most points in the SF Bay area, 900 miles from Utah, Several Airports within 2 hours for those not bringing a 914, Large 914 support contingent. I'm willing to take lead on Monterey. Is someone going to organize Tahoe if that is the consensus? With that being said, I am sure Jamie and Todd could put on a great WCR in Medford. Let the people decide! Jim |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) Laguna Seca is probably impossible. It is actually a city or county park now and they only allow racing a few times a year to keep the noise and traffic down for the locals who live across from the entrance. Unless you cuddle up to an organization like Trackmasters or NASA... Get your group their own run group etc... |

Yep at Laguna Seca we would have to tag along with another group to make it possible, but there are groups running every month thru the spring and summer including PCA, POC, Trackmasters, etc. The Backup plan would be an autox, and again we could tag along with another group to keep costs down. I like Joe's idea of coinciding with the historics or ALMS but camping at those events fills up a year in advance but would provide another activity for the weekend. All that being said, a mix of activities is best anyway as some like to track their cars, some like to show n'shine, and some like the group drives; while others like some or all of the above. It looks like Medford and Monterey have some momentum as does Tahoe. Who is gonna step up and volunteer to plan Tahoe? As Joe said, I believe enthusiasm is high in the beginning and most of the helpers evaporate as the event approaches. Ask McMark, Greenie, and Joe Sharp how that works out. The lead person should plan on doing most or all of the planning IMHO. Sending JRust and Todd Endlund a PM right now, maybe a poll is in order. Jim |
