I know it's only a day after WCR 2009, but now that I have a running and driving 914, I'm already getting ready for WCR 2010.
Being that next year is the 40 anniversary of the 914, my suggestion would be to do it up big and in Las Vegas. Plenty of rooms and lots of different options for activities. I know its a long drive for the PNW guys (its long even from Sacramento), but being that its Vegas, I'm thinking it will be worth it. Any other ideas being thrown around? I'd be happy to help plan or help out in any way! |

OK, just for grins I called the Horizon Casino at Lake Tahoe and talked to the group manager. They would offer $59.00 weekend rooms for the event (and probably $39.00 weekday rates), section off and cone off a section of guarded parking, $9.95 buffet with a section just for us and they have experience with large car events. If the group got VERY large, we can get better rates. The joy is very little preparation needs to be done, no formal deposits to hold a group of rooms and even if people wait to the last minute the rates for the rooms aren't a killer. The rates are based on choosing a weekend this time of year and not on one of their peak weekends and are so cheap it doesn't warrant camping.
** It is possible that we may be able to have an auto-cross at the airport that is close to the hotels. I have a call in to the manager and am waiting for a reply I would be willing to "participate" in the arrangements and events but not all on my own. I would also be willing to throw a BBQ at my shop either before or after the event. Best I can offer.... I think the coast is awesome too. I don't know how easy it is to get uncrowded roads on a weekend in that area so others that live there will need to chime in. Another alternative might be Yosemite National Park as it has something for everyone. However it might be more difficult to get safe parking and good rates. |
