I know it's only a day after WCR 2009, but now that I have a running and driving 914, I'm already getting ready for WCR 2010.
Being that next year is the 40 anniversary of the 914, my suggestion would be to do it up big and in Las Vegas. Plenty of rooms and lots of different options for activities. I know its a long drive for the PNW guys (its long even from Sacramento), but being that its Vegas, I'm thinking it will be worth it. Any other ideas being thrown around? I'd be happy to help plan or help out in any way! |

Paso would probably be a good area. I know slo has alot of cops (drinking in the parking lot would not fly in slo)
But still close enough. Buttonwillow is nearby, we can also take the route that Targa California did going to fort hunter liggut to the 1 up to monterey, then take the backroad to greenfield. It was a fun scenic drive |

(drinking in the parking lot would not fly in slo) Depends... if we let the city know about the event and have all the permits ready... I would be happy to look into that BTW... then it shouldn't be a problem. SLO has little gatherings that quaffe wine and eat stinky cheese all the time and they love to promote this place as a destination spot for groups like ours. In fact many of you may already know this but the 356 alternates each year SLO and Cambria. I believe they have wine, beer and all the usual party stuff. Paso is great too but there is the possibility of it being hot. The paso Wine fest was this last weekend as well and it got up to 105 in some spots. Elliot- You mentioned having a connect with the airport, I would really like to get a/x dates going here would you be interested in working on that with me? Also do you own a white 74 that is often parked near the Firestone Walker Brewery? |

There used to be a white 74 that parked in front of the Fastenal building. I spoke with him briefly about a year ago. I haven't seen the car in a long time. |

I haven't seen the car in a long time. Great! I am a PCA member also and would love to help out to get this going. Selfishly I feel I need to a/x again (last time was 2002) before I hit DE's. That was the car i was talking about.. never talked to him... obviously not you. Yosemite would be pretty cool, but it could be quite a headache. Working with DNC (the concession company that runs the hotels/food/shops) is difficult as they are very large and it would be very expensive. Parking wouldn't be much of a problem, but I doubt they would be able to cone much off or reserve any spaces. The park speed limit is 35 and even 25 in some spots, any drives would be a serious cruise and we would be limited to 41 to glacier point or big trees grove and highway 140 out to mariposa. If we were lucky 120 to tuolumne might open but it usually happens the wednesday before Memorial (yep, day before yesterday). But the ultimate Yosemite nighmare???? Someone would leave food/chapstick/toothpaste/a candy bar wrapper in their car and we would have to watch in horror, or stumble upon the scene afterwards, as a bear ripped a 914 apart like it was a sardine can. I have watched it happen to a car in camp 4 , and while I admit it was slightly entertaining due to the "My God I didn't think that was possible" factor I would feel super bad if that happened to anyone/car here. Your car would be destroyed. |
