I know it's only a day after WCR 2009, but now that I have a running and driving 914, I'm already getting ready for WCR 2010.
Being that next year is the 40 anniversary of the 914, my suggestion would be to do it up big and in Las Vegas. Plenty of rooms and lots of different options for activities. I know its a long drive for the PNW guys (its long even from Sacramento), but being that its Vegas, I'm thinking it will be worth it. Any other ideas being thrown around? I'd be happy to help plan or help out in any way! |

Tahoe, Medford, Monterey, ?.........is all good but I think someone made a good point about rotation of states. and technically speaking the Horizon is in Nevada, not even a coastal state. And nobody but Paul has said they will help organize Tahoe.
I still think a poll is in order, but until there is a definite commitment by someone to plan the event in several locations I think the poll is premature. The other problem with a poll is people that don't, won't, or can't attend will help determine the choice possibly at the detriment to an attendee. All the talk about distances is cool, but IMHO if you want to attend you will no matter how far.....ask Rick and Sandy Ollah, they drove the Alien from Minnesota to Socal and back. I drove 900 miles each way to Seattle last summer as did SirAndy. Many drove that far and more to attend the Red Rocks. Shoot Ed Morrow flies out the the West Coast to attend! Joe O was out from Deland Florida this year! With all that being said, if we give this thread some time I think the locations will come together and we can put together a poll. Currently their are firm planning committments for Medford and Monterey, and possibly for Tahoe if people will help Paul. Whew....I am done for now, Jim |

Tahoe, Medford, Monterey, ?.........is all good but I think someone made a good point about rotation of states. and technically speaking the Horizon is in Nevada, not even a coastal state. And nobody but Paul has said they will help organize Tahoe Just my thoughts. I hear the two or three people who have said that Tahoe is not coastal. But then, when I was in Portland I never saw water. When I was in Santa Rosa I never saw water. Yes, they were coastal but that really wasn't relevent. Besides, if you have never seen Tahoe let me just say it might as well be an ocean. You cannot see across in most places. Four years ago, we were in Oregon, then Santa Rosa, then Seattle, and most recently LA area. Behind the scenes, we have brought up Tahoe for a number of years. If you haven't been there it is breathtaking beautiful. You can gamble, see shows, go on boat excursions, fish, at least 1000 restaurants, a curvy ride that takes most of a day, the hotels have allowed other groups to have autocross events in the lots, car shows etc... True, you haven't heard anyone but Paul say he would help organize but that doesn't mean action hasn't been taking place in the background. We have a group of three to five getting together next weekend. As for Nevada not being a coastal state, we really think of Nevada as a California tax shelter. You want property there so you can claim it as your primary residence. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |
