Bought by an aquaintance, the car was misrepresented as something it is apparently not. Im familiar with 911's... 914's are still new to me

The 914/6 GT was a strange beast. The factory converted a few cars as listed by Glenn Stazak. They did make 400 kits available for people to convert their own; this was a requirement for homologation. However, and this is the tricky part, the extent of the conversion was pretty optional. In almost all cases, the steel flairs were added. About the same for the fiberglass lids with the balsa reinforcements, the fiberglass bumpers and rocker panels. I'm sure most of the engines would have been uprated, but even the factory did different levels of tune depending on the event; rally engines were detuned for reliability. Check the brakes, on the front, converted aluminum S calipers were used, but should have the 49.5mm bores compared to the S with 48mm bores. They may also have fast remove type pins or other modifications. On the rear, the 914/6 calipers were spaced for vented rotors. The original GT rotors are unique to the car and do not require any spacers to center the rotor as would 911 rotor conversions. The car should also have a front mounted oil cooler with a steel cover/duct in the bottom of the trunk. The 100 liter fuel tank was rarely installed; it was used more on the long event cars. The original pieces are rare and very expensive. If the car has the correct parts, and not reproductions, then the price starts to be realistic. Many cars were written off, then reconstructed. This makes for tricky titles. However, I know of at least four cars with "twins" purporting to be the same car. One pair each have half of the original body. The other three were rebodied with new chassis, then the original chassis were reconstructed. A GT expert could check all this out. On the GT's Glenn would be one expert, and he would know who else could be more local to check it out.
