I just want to start off by thanking Eric for all the help through this rebuild. I came by some 6 calipers by chance in a box of goodies picked up at a shop that was clearing out most of their parts. I did a little research on the world and found alot of useful tips and of course Erics caliper rebuild thread. Being young and doing my first 914 I decided to do the work myself and save some cash.
As you can see the calipers needed a full restoration, so I took them all apart and blasted them. Took them to a brake specialist to have plated and prepped. Took them about 2 months to get them finished, and then when I went to get them I was not impressed. The reason why I took them to a professional was to get it right, and in case I ever wanted to sell them, I could get a good amount of cash for them. Anyways, I took them reluctantly and finished the rebuild. Overall Im happy that they are done, but not impressed with the shop that had them plated. Will not be using them ever again! Before After I didnt get the pins on the rears plated because one was very pitted and the shop didnt think I should use it. After assembly I thought that they would work fine. |
