Got my B.S. in Graphics Communication Technology (ie printing industry management) from Arizona State University. Actually worked in printing for about 2 1/2 years in Torrance, CA before I made a u-turn and headed back to Arizona.
Worked as maintenance man at Bible Conference Center for about 3 months, then they made me general manager for the next 3 years. Got into computers there with an Osborne One. The next gig took advantage of my experience in production scheduling (for R.R. Donneley & Sons printing) and my computer experience - I got to try and computerize the scheduling for a manufacturing plant. That turned into a computer support gig for the local university for 12 1/2 years where I did just about everything from changin hard drives, to teaching database classes and doing programming. Current gig is being the whole IT department for the Museum of Northern Arizona (www.musnaz.org). I do everything from manage the network to maintaining the web page. It's more fun than anything I've ever done for a living before, as well as being more challenging. Even more fun is my other "job" - I get to do the business part of my wife's quilting business - www.tulpenwerk.com. And I get to watch her create wonderful quilts for people. |
