Working on my transmission now and I lack the expertise to know if parts (syncros, slider, and dog teeth) are still serviceable.
Just wondering if everyone just replaces everything while they're in there. I know it's expensive, but is it worth the cost just to ensure I don't put bad parts back in? I found AutohauzAZ to have some of the best prices. Does anyone have a better parts supplier recommendation? |

Thanks Dr. Evil:
Probably take you up on option 4; it'll probably be a week or 2 before I get everything taken apart. I did take some parts to a local VW shop and although he said some parts looked good, he would replace everything. I don't think the mechanic was trying to sell me parts, but just giving his honest opinion. That was what spurred me to write the initial post. |

Since most of these boxes ran on low power engines, full replacement isn't always needed. |
