Are there racing restrictions involved with VIN#? Can a six conversion compete in all the same events as an original six? I.E.- In GT class racing, do you need a 914/6 VIN# to enter a car with a six, or, could you enter a conversion? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

FWIW I have tentatively gotten the OK to run with VARA here in the west even though my car is a 73 conversion. (I have never driven with them, yet). As long as the conversion results in a close "facsimile" of a race prepped 70-72 factory -6, mechanically and cosmetically, then they apparently will classify it as such. I think they do allow sideshifter swaps for the early cars so the trans difference isn't important.
POC classification is similar; the 914's are classified (er, screwed) under backdate/update rules so a converted 914-6 is classified the same as a factory car. You can alternatively start with the 914-4 baseline but you get screwed even worse with that approach. One thing almost all groups insist on is that if you're racing in a stock, production or production-improved/modified class, your car has to HAVE a VIN i.e. tube-frame or homebuilt chassis are frowned upon or bumped into the highest classes w/ other purpose-built racecars. |
