Well, i got a 901 off ebay last year that has a taller gear in 5th. a month or two after i bought it the seller had some questionable dealings with other buyers and got booted from Ebay. and i suspected i was duped and paid too much for a stock 901. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)
Well, now that i finally have a V8 that makes chewbaka like noises from the tranny, i thought i would get my ebay special tranny checked out by a local guy that has done reputable work for another 914 guy. Good news: it does have a taller 5th gear. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) Bad news: 5 bad syncros, 1st, 2nd dogteeth, 1st & R shift sleeve, 2nd 3rd shift sleeve are (IMG:style_emoticons/default/barf.gif) Anyone got some quality used tranny parts? Also, What would be a good gearing for a V8? just the taller 5th? or 4th and 5th? |

I would just go for the taller 5th, 4th gear will still get you up there in speed. 5th will let you cruise there at lower RPM's.
