I want to get an estimate of how much everyone has invested in there cars- now be honest! Has everyone invested more than they are worth? I would estimate an investment of at least $8k - estimated value $6k (optimistically!). Pictures welcome!
I'll start - I have $5,500 invested and would be luck to get $4k. I am going to quit counting. Will have to post pics later - wrong computer |

This is interesting...I actually think that my 914 is the cheapest care that I've owned...some of these numbers are "ex-recto" but probably aren't too far off...some of these numbers are a bit old too...
11 yrs ago I bought a stock '75 2.0 for $2300 body work and paint (prepped myself) $1000 brakes (rotors, bearings, etc) $400 battery (optima)$120 2 rear rebuilt calipers $400 master cylinder $200 Tires $400 pressure sensor for FI $150 (in stock at my local FLAPS!!) stupid evil smog pump pully bracket $150 tune up parts $40 x 10yrs $400 new ball joints, tie rod ends $500 new rear decklid lock $100 stuff I forgot about $500 insurance $45/month x 132 months $5940 driven 10 yrs 50 miles/day x 250 days/yr (owned 10 but it has been out of commission periodically) =125000 miles gas 125000/25mpg x $2.00/gal = $10,000 total = $22,500 for 125,000 miles of fun = $0.18/mile--that's pretty damn cheap for the amount of fun. I recently bought a wrecked donor car for a new engine ($2k) so hopefully I'll get another 100k miles of fun... Of course this doesn't count my time (priceless) and I'm still driving pretty much stock car...not one of the works of art I read about on this board... |
