I'm considering replacing the four fenders on my 914 with fiberglass versions. I have two questions:
Which ones do people recommend? Currently, I like Rich Bontempi's as the flare is very suttle and keeps the narrow body look. They are also very accurate to the original shape and design of the 914. Anyone know about how this will sit with the rules for the various clubs? This car is currently an ITA (SCCA) and BP (PCA) classified car (although I'd probably have to add weight for PCA club racing. I'm planning on working on this soon. Thanks in advance for the advice. PS: Hey Brad, I'm still alive. Recently come accross some money and I'd like to get the bodywork finished and painted. Mike '74 914-4 2.0 race car |

Mike, you might have a hard time keeping the car in BP (PCA Zone 7 class) with glass fenders. I don't think that kind of weight reduction is allowed in the production category. (Definitely goes into the "cutting or welding" thing, generally a no-no for production.)
You might be able to argue if you have printouts from a scale to back it up, but even then you're on ground that is mighty shaky at best. As I recall, you were doing pretty well in BP, which often means you'll be a protest magnet. If you wanna do the FG fenders, you'll probably wind up in another class in Z7. --DD |
