If anyone here that may be able to reproduce these baby's it would be a bonus for all the 914 owners. If so, let me know and I will trace these out and send you the tracings of the liners. The pictures are of the rear well liners. Let me know so I can trace these out and get them off before I install these. I'm only going to put liners in the rear wells since I have oil lines in the pass. side front I won't be installing the front liners on my car. The rear liners are going in. The are made of a flexable plastic with clips on each for install. They bolt on to the car where the rear valance meets the wheel well and other side connects where the rocker panel meets the well. Very simple install process, the clips that hold them are pop riveted on to the liners.

Any chance to get a tracing of both the front and rear fender liners?
I think I can locate the material to do them and you're right I'm sure they'd prevent a lot crap from getting in between the tub and the fenders, and ultimately preventing a lot of rust. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/burnout.gif) |

Wow, that'd be great if someone can make an affordable version of those...very cool! If/when they become available to the masses I might have to be down for a set!

I was wondering whatever became of this because I've wanted a set as well. I thought that the last time it came up there was someone who was going to make them, and then it all just disappeared. I just wish I had the facilities to manufacture stuff so I could take on making them for other folks.

I'd be in for a set if someone made them at a reasonable cost. I think Partwerks were selling them for like 200 bucks on ebay with no success. I think if someone could make these for alot less then that there would be alot of sales!
Someone make these! |

Excellent! After seeing the quality of your rear trunk release product...I can't wait to get my hands on a set of these!
These will surely help my electric antenna last longer that I installed in the drivers side front wheel well! Jim |

The only liners I have ever seen installed didn't fit very tightly, and in general, I think it's better to have all that exposed, so you can wash it out frequently.
I am not to sure that it doesn't give crap a place to sit! M |

Well I've got them installed and they fit very well, I'm not at all disappointed in the way these fit in the wells. I only have the rear liners installed and I'm very pleased with the results so far. I'd take some pictures but its hard to get a picture up inside the well with these installed. Not sorry I got these. I installed them without having to remove the tires.
BTW: The tracings have been sent along with a good size piece of the material that these liners are made from. Engman will be receiving the tracings soon. |

Did a search on the US govt site and there are two patents. ! is for a dual wheel fender liner - not an issue and the second is for one that this does not violate. They state in the claims that the liner has scored edges and fits between the removable fender and the fender. Dont think our fenders are bolted on.
Yes I do know how to read patents - I have six and have about another 8 pending. Unless there is some super secret patent I do not know about? M |

I would also be interested in a front & rear set for my 73 1.7 stock if the price is reasonable and mounting is not too painful on the body!

There are ways around patents.
What kind of material would they be made of? I ask because, as of right now, I'm driving a rental POS 2005 Kia Rio automatic (Jetta is laid up in the shop thanks to someone not paying attention and crunching my rear trunk) and it has fender liners and they are LOUD when driving in the rain (water spraying on the liners). On the other hand, my Jetta's liners and my g/f's Passat are not loud. Yeah, I'd be worried about crap building up between the liner and fender/body. |

our company specializes in reverse engineering parts for tools used to make semi-conductor chips....one part that the original OEM made was steel glued to plastic, huge, huge profit margin for them...we started to make them and sell them as well until we got letter threatening us....instead of glue, we changed it to be snapped together...it worked and got around the patent (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif)
(and it was cheaper to manufacture with the new method....a win, win for us ) |
