I got out and actually (Gasp!) put some gas in the tank so it would start (the 4.0). I had a detonation issue that turned out to be a failed coil. So I replaced both with 993 coils, plus new ignitors, caps and rotors. After all that it wouldn't start. Then I found out it was out of gas (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)
Once I got it started, I found the #5 intake wire was shorting out to the engine tin due to a torn boot on the distributor end. I replaced the boot with the one I took off the end of the coil wires during the coil conversion. I also fixed the oil leak on that side, and cleaned the engine bay of motor oil. Tomorrow I can check it and make sure the leak is gone. |

Set up Vollgas!, a website/blog for fun, based on my VW and (mainly) Porsche files. Not a great deal of 914 content yet, but there are a couple of 914 in-car videos and a trip round the Karmann Museum (plus three other Porsche-heavy museums here in Europe...). I'll add more 914 content soon, but for now I'm off for a last drive before our third period of lock-down kicks in tomorrow. Sigh...

A friend had to change the business name he had because Porsche deemed it was a copyright infringement. He got fined a bunch of money, and had a bench warrant issued for his arrest. Clay |

However, this is the domain name used to contact Porsche's press office, museum, archives etc, and was passed over by Porsche when registering names. For the last decade we've also used classicporschemag.com and .co.uk, and also registered Classic Porsche and 911 & Porsche World as magazine names, with Porsche's blessing. The problem arises, as far as Porsche is concerned, when names are used to sell parts or services. If there is ever a problem, I have vollgas.online ready to go. Volkswagen were the worst years ago - they employed no win, no fee lawyers who went after people selling anything VW related, including toys, clothing etc. The lawyers (based in the US, naturally) came after my ex-wife for selling VW models. When she explained that Volkswagen in the UK actually bought models from her to give away as gifts, they suddenly went quiet. Lawyers, don't you just love them? |

Got around to assessing the damage 'HOWARD' sustained from the 605 freeway mishap. Surprisingly the damage is a lot less than I expected, although it's going to take some professional help to get back the where I started.
Right front ... hopefully, it's only the strut. Fortunately, I already have a pair of late powder-coated struts I got from Bruce Stone (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Right rear. It's only the quarter panel. What appears to be a crease in the door is just a reflection of the edge of the driveway. Left rear. More than likely, bent trailing arm mounts and a crease in the quarter panel. What appears to be a crease in the door is a reflection of an extension cord. Also, it will need a new front windshield. The OEM one popped out and got smashed all to hell when it made contact with the retaining wall. Need to get it up in the air to determine the actual the course of action (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif) Dug out a pair of old rusty jack stands and refurbished them ... wire brushed them and applied a coat of rust reformer primer, then a couple days later, applied the finish coat of Dupli-Color DE-1601 Ford Blue. Ready to put into action ... |

Just had a nice conversation with Steve Wong, SW Chips. I have his custom chip in my DME for my '87 3.2 in my Six. At the time I ordered the chip, the only thing different in my engine, over stock, were the 964 cams. Back then, (pre-MB911 SS heat exchangers and mufflers) we spec'd it for stock 914-6 heat exchangers and muffler. So, now that I have 2,700 miles on it in addition to running Ben's excellent large-tube SS full exhaust, I thought I would talk with Steve to see if sending the chip back for an adjustment in programming was worth it. He said he could definitely make some adjustments to accommodate the exhaust. So maybe this weekend I will pull the DME, remove the chip and ship it back to him. BTW, one of his custom chips is now over $900 and the cost to have my SW custom chip modified is going to be $256, shipping included. Considering the cost of a new chip, probably not bad.
I am not doing this to gain any additional power; this car runs great and is strong. I am doing it so the engine runs as close as possible to perfect. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) I have one of his chips in the 4.0L. It is extremely custom. It was based on the info I gave him at the time I built the motor. But it needs tweaking. I am considering gutting a dead ECU and installing this: Megasquirt Pro Module I can custom tune more than the Motronic, and I can also add things like traction control. |
