my son texted me that there were two 914s at cars and coffee this morning so went out there and ended up meeting the owners and a couple of 914 World members. Seeing those cars inspired me to go home and replace my leaking injector with the FJ67 replacement I purchased last year. took it for a spin and it seems to be running pretty well. I still haveabumch of stuff to sort out but I'm getting closer to being able to take on trips more than a couple miles from home .

Went to PCA cars and coffee with both Elwood and Igor. Lots of people looking at our 914s.
Back to work on the AC now. Clay |

They do look great - they're one-piece alumin(i)um with painted centres and diamond-cut rim to give the 'alu-steel' look of the 904 wheels. Come in 6, 7 and 8 x 15 with factory offsets, along with a 'trick' 7 which has the ET adjusted so they fit under SWB 911 rear fenders. |

Kevin Hines from Beck 904 I believe is reproducing those wheels in aluminum. I don’t know if they’re the same manufacture but he also sells aluminum “steely” wheels. |

The only other vaguely similar wheels I know of are these from Image, which are, frankly, hideous. They're being sold as '904 wheels'... Over the past couple of months, I've been collecting the interior trim pieces for the car. Bought new where available but, as we all know not everything is. I was able to get some good quality pieces from @bdstone914 and @914werke as well as others. Nothing perfect, minor scratches, nicks or cracks, things like that.
Just got them back from a guy here in town that restored them for me. They look pretty good (despite the bad cell phone pic) Attached thumbnail(s) |

Those will look great mounted. can we ask what he charges fore the restoration? i would be glad to pull mind and send them to him. if he is accepting work, |

He fixed the cracks that were there and then re-covered / re-wrapped them for $237.00'ish All in all, not too bad, I don't think. |

Well, made a little progress today. Since the right strut on 'HOWARD' is bent inward and the tire is flat, I jacked up the front end and placed a couple of wheel dollies under both front wheels ...
... then started winching the car rearward up onto the mid-rise lift with a heavy duty ratchet strap secured to the left trailing arm. Once I got the rear wheels lined up with the ramps, repositioned the front to line up better, then dug out the Parkit 360 motorized trailer tug to drag it a bit further back. Worked like a champ (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mueba.gif) Next, I'll need to jack the front up again to remove the wheels dollies and finish pulling it the remainder of the way onto the lift. Then I'll remove the rocker panels before lifting the body up for a more in-depth damage inspection (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) |

Driver's side long is a little dirty, but looks rather well preserved, rust wise. Will take a peek at the passenger's side tomorrow.
Took a quick look-see at the left trailing arm mounts - doesn't really look like anything is awry with the uni-body structure. Maybe just the trailing arm is bent at the pivot point, or the alignment plates got moved a bit? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) I'll have to take some measurements when it's up in the air, and mirror them from the passenger side's measurements to be sure what's actually going on (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) |

Got the passenger side rocker panel off today, and apparently it was a good time to do it. Scraped a lot of dirt off of the long and the inside of the rocker panel - just like the driver's side.
Happy to report, that except for the dry dirt build-up, the entire long appears to be in perfect condition (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mueba.gif) I guess it's worth keeping and fixin' the other s#it that needs to be done (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) |

Up in the air - started with the right front issue ...
Appears to have a bent spindle on the strut, possibly a bent insert and a snapped rotor (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) (Andy-cam photo) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif) Fortunately, everything else looks OK, but I'll take measurements to make sure it's still straight. I was planning to upgrade the front suspension to the late set up anyway, and have refurbished (powder-coated) struts & control arms, Bilstein inserts, backing plates, new rotors, PMB calipers, ball joints and turbo tie-rods, all waiting in the wings (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) EDIT-1: Hit my first stumbling block (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) I'm having a rough go at getting the damn grease cap off so I can pull the rotor off. I removed the big O-ring, tried spraying PB Blaster and employed several pry tools, then wiped it down and tried heating the cap with MAP gas - all with no success. It's been several years since I re-greased the bearings, and don't remember getting the cap off being such a bioch (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) |
