I was reading an interview with an old transmission builder for a Porsche team. Talking about the 901. One of his suggestions for smoother shifting was where the factory ground a bevel on the shift rails, round it off and polish it. So I did. Attached Image. Attached Image

I also read about this fella that worked for Cadillac that developed “slick shifting”. Anyone ever do this mod or know if the dog teeth are strong enough for the mod? Thanks

Went for a long drive to visit my 85 year old mother and test out a new fan on the rad.
Both the mother and the Porsche are doing well! Heat issue much improved.Attached Image

With the help of another Porsche friend, we lifted the engine up in place... Chris' (tangerine) engine lift tool helped as well.... now lots of cables, etc to hook up. As soon as I replace the front rotors it will be ready for a road test.

Finally finished getting the fuel lines installed and the tank replaced. Got the battery hooked up and can't get her to fire up. Going to spend some time tonight figure it out as I was hoping to get it up and running and take it to a shop for some additional repairs. We'll see how this goes! Just glad to get some good time in yesterday and this morning to at least finish the lines and battery tray.

I can help with the wiring if you want, as I have been there, done that.

Clay

Thanks Clay!! I’m not worried about the engine compartment side, but the DME side will take some work compared to my 3.2 DME wiring. I just noticed there is no DME relay and I’m missing the ignition control unit. Fun fun fun

The DME relay on a 964/993 is part of the chassis wiring harness, as is the diagnostic plug. Do you still have your /4 relay board? If so, you can use the D-Jet relays in place of the DME relay.

Clay

I dumped the relay board when I installed my first six back in 1986. I can make a dme relay out of two separate relays. I can figure it out. It’s just time.

This should help....

Thanks Clay!! I wimped out and bought the PMS harness. New job is taking a lot of my time and I don't want to spend a lot of time on this part of the project. I did all the wiring myself on my 3.2, which was a lot more simpler than the 993 harness.

At the end of three days, the color is finally on. It has been baking for four hours at 100 degrees, paint is curing nicely. @euro911 Thanks so much Mark, I stripped it to bare metal, it is in great shape. Hope you had a safe drive from here.

no idiots out in the lane yelling at 3.00 am in the morning.

got up, got to work, cracked all three cars out of my restricted linear parking arrangement in inner city lane way japan scale batcave. fanged around in citroen xm for an hour and a half just to loosen it up and me too. got its hydraulic juices flowing again. puddles of green LHM liquid on floor where its been parked for 6 weeks. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
then......... busted out 914 and flogged it around here locally.
deserted streets. won't say how fast i had it wound out, you never know what the authorities are scanning for evidence. but lets just say it was responsible where i did it.
stayed within 5k of home - within the law (i was exercising (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) ). deserted inner city streets. heaven.

waiting to get pfizer or moderna option as i am 60. no way am i sticking astra zeneva junkyard dog vaccine in my veins. i want german/american tech in me. have to wait.

Yes i used the spray product. i sided it foe the rear valance too.
i prepped it after getting all the undercoat off , i used the pre-paint de-greaser and sanded it with a 400 grit paper, cleaned it etc, it should adhere well. i am going to do the other side rear next weekend.

pulled the motor yesterday, removed the tin and pulled the head due to finding loose valve seat on #3 intake valve. no head or piston damage , i think the valve is ok too, but
but that loose seat will need to be repaired. Can anyone recommend an aircooled head specialist on the south east coast?

Turned my running/driving -6 into just a running one. Brake pedal just about went to the floor when I put it away for winter last November. Finally got the time to wheel it out of the garage and get going on swapping out the master cylinder I bought from 914Rubber 4+ years ago. While I was at it, figured I might as well pull all the calipers and send them to PMB. Amazingly enough, just about all the brake line connections came loose even though I know they haven't been touched in 25+ years.
Did start and run her for about 15mins and carefully pulled back into the garage.

Well, after a year and 3 weeks, I got my engine back in yesterday. Woo Hoo!

Engine & tranny cleaned up, powder-coated tins, new alternator, Tangerine T'stat, proper cooling vanes, cleaned and repainted engine bay to original Malaga Red for future paint job to take car back to original. Installed all new engine bay seals from 914rubber.com. Also neatened and tidied up all wiring and much more. Also tonite finally installed the LED headlights I got a year ago from 914rubber.com.

George at Auto Atlanta graciously tested all my voltage regulators last year and found them all working fine, at no charge. Thank you George. Expecting no electrical issues for the time being.

So much to do now - hoping to get the car on the road this week. Having some problems with clutch cable not pulling up the pedal even when adjusted to where it was before dropping the engine.........working fine before I dropped the engine.....

Will post engine bay photo soon.....
