Finally got the replacement right strut assembly installed on HOWARD. I was having a hard time getting the insert's stem pushed up through the upper mount to get the washers and nut started.

Attached Image

I finally noticed that the the stem had inside threads, so screwed in a 6mm bolt with some bailing wire and pushed the bailing wire up through the mount, so my assistant could pull the stem up enough to get the washers & nut on it.

EDIT: Found a 10x30 pinch bolt for the bottom of the strut in my stash of metric hardware (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mueba.gif)

Ordered a case of oil and a couple Mahle oil filters. I want to do the oil/filter change this coming weekend hopefully. We are going to take her down to LA in about 3 weeks so I thought nice clean oil and filter would be good. I have about 2500 miles on this oil/filter after it was changed at 1K miles. I tried to buy from Pelican, but they wanted more for shipping than the price of the filter. Ended up ordering from Amazon and got free shipping, so I bought 2, but felt bad about it. Oh, after a lot of consideration, I ordered the "Heritage" license plates for my car. I think the black/yellow looks the best on the car. What do you think?

I love seeing our cars out in the "wild" so people can remember what great cars they were and smile. Every time I attend a Cars 'n Coffee, my car gets a lot of looks and people want to talk about the one they rode in or owned. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

WOW! Quite a turnout for your part of the world. How many countries were represented and where was the meet held? Tell us more about the "tour". I'm thinking about shipping mine to Europe then touring one summer. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

I had been looking for a shop to do my 4 to 5 lug work on my rear hubs. Wasn't having any luck so far. I made the mistake of mentioning to the wife I could just get new 5 lug hubs from Eric. Fortunately they are not much more than what I was looking at used. So I ordered hubs.

Removed my first wheel bearing - just happened to be the rear wheel bearing of a 914.

Had to use parts and pieces from an aluminum seal installation kit and front wheel bearing removal/installation kit.

Hoping to be able to successfully install some pre-2000 bearings soon, after I get the other side off tomorrow.

I was careful as usual and heeded Bruce Stone’s warning about marring the hub - the knick was there from a previous owner ( extensive service records from 1989 to 2001).

Going to pack up the GT4 today and get ready to head out to the Route 66. I don't even care how many miles it is.
