Do you need to do this if the hard drive(s) are big? Do you use software to do this autonomously? Does Windows have this feature? Perhaps some old C++ code that you’ve written can do this quickly? Some of the server software we use tends to get sluggish if it accumulates too many temporary files and memory cache. Same goes for the database cache. When you have a busy system like this site run for a month or two without interruption, you inevitably will collect some dead weight.
