It's time for me to replace the old, cracking Pirellis on my 914. My car has 5.5-inch, four-bolt Fuchs. The current tires are 165/80-15s. I've been told that the Sumitomo HTR A/S P01s are pretty decent. They're offered in 195/60-15, 185/65-15, or 195/65-15 sizes. I think any of them will fit under my narrow-body.
Anyone have any recommendations for tires: brand, model or size? I won't be autocrossing the thing and neither will I drive the car in heavy rain or snow. So a high-performance all-season or even summer tire would work fine. |

I have 195/60/15 with 4 bolt Mahle's and have no clearance problems. In fact, plenty of room.

I have 205/60/15's on all four corners without flares running on 2.0L Fuch's rims. Rears are fine. If I do a full lock left or right turn, the fronts appear to rub some (as is evident by rub marks in the inner wheel well.)
I like how the 205/60/15's fill-out the space. |

I just installed Yokohama's 205/65 x 15 on stock Fuchs with stock fenders. They are for some reason a bit closer on the right side, with a bit more room on the left. (?) They look fat on the car and fill the wheel wells perfectly.

My LE came w/ Dunlop SPs so I wanted to put Dunlops back on & used the tire calculator here on the world to make sure my speedo would register correctly. Wound up using Dunlop SP Sport A2 plus in 195/65 x15 on my Mahles. No issues with the fit @ all & according to the calculator virtually the same diameter as my originals.

I like the look of 185/70s...very close to the originals but wider. They will be replacing my 195/65s real soon.

I have Bridgestone Potanza 205 60 15's on 4 bolt Fuchs, nice tire, no clearance issues and do the same kind of driving you say you do.

Also have Bridgstone Potenza's and am very happy
195,60,15 on mahle wheels They do rub a little on the inner front wheel wells at full lock, it's not an issue though. I also was considering the 65 profile as the speedo is out by about 4 miles/hour I think. Probably would go the 65's if I bought them again. I'm getting old and also like a bit of comfort in the ride. I have Bridgestone Potanza 205 60 15's on 4 bolt Fuchs, nice tire, no clearance issues and do the same kind of driving you say you do. Sorry to hijack your thread ID 19732.0.
I'm also looking for a tire for street driving only like 19732.0 mentioned above. Can also please share a pictures of those tires from the rear to see how much wide 205 or maybe 195 is. since I'm also checking new tires for my narrow body and going to use 2.0 Fuchs wheels. Currently I have riviera wheels with 185x65x15 and I did pull rear driver side fender about 1/4 inch. Thanks and God bless! |

There are a number of different Rivs out there. Some will fit 205s under stock (or very slightly modified) 914 fenders, while others make even 165s a tight squeeze. Sounds like your wheels are closer to the latter than the former. There's a good chance that they were intended for a VW Bug, so the wheel is too far out in the fender.
I would suggest either sticking with 185s (or narrower!), or getting some 914 wheels. --DD |
