It's been a long time since I owned a couple of '73 cars. Maybe somebody can
confirm.

Sorry, I could not resist.

I used the online question submission form to ask them if they know that tampering with a VIN is a federal offense...

I don't really expect to get a response.
Lets see how long it stays up

Both of the rear shock towers are buckled at the bottom. Must have been a hard hit.

maybe it was crashed hard, but at least it did "not seen the cold, salt, sand or climate changes like other regions of the country that wreaked havoc on these delicate cars"

Sad really. Yeah it may have 35K on the speedo but the speedo has rolled over at least once. Aside from that this car looks rough. I would love to take a pick to the inner front fender and see how thick the bondo and undercoating is.

I am intrigued by the windshield vin it sure looks original and correct, but oh so wrong. That's got to be a one of a kind. So much for Teutonic efficiency, eh?

High 20's Jack. Sorry to disappoint. You ready to cut it loose?

Perhaps they're willing scrape off the coating on the wheel well to expose the stamped # so any potential buyer will know exactly what the correct # is?

It's bad enough when these clueless sellers tell the Porsche/volkswagon story. Seems like everytime. These clowns couldn't even get that right.

new body tags here http://www.stoddard.com/00070110118.html

also new windshield tags on eBay made to order - from yugoslavia as i recall

next thing we all need is an engine stamp kit

QUOTE(era vulgaris @ Jun 8 2016, 08:36 AM) *

Check out the closeup pic of the vin tag in the windshield. Notice anything odd?

You guys missed that there's no VIN sticker in the driver's door jamb. It's been replaced by some little white square.
Also the Karmann plate has been painted over.

Also, unless I remember wrong, in '73 the door hardware such as the window winder
and the door pull surround piece were still metal, not black plastic. There should not
be things like this on a '35K mile' car. It doesn't make sense.

Plastic on my '73, but a metal surround on the crank. The one in the picture for the listed car is all black plastic. Any chance that more than one type of crank was used? Here's my car:

It looks like they painted over the one of the jack holder straps and flipped it over for the pic. You can see the outline from it on the trunk floor (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif)

In looking around, I think Rich is correct. So black for both of those on a '73 is
probably correct. You have the chrome crank that is on early cars, but we've
already seen how porsche doesn't always change things at the beginning of a model
year (US).

looks like the VIN was also blacked out on the Maintenance book, and the hood is bent, and you can see some repair along the front edge in the picture where it is lifted.

I have looked at a number of 914 listings from that seller, and I have never seen one that didn't present some serious concerns, especially given the high asking prices...

Curious,

Isn't there a few LEO,s here as active members?
Someone might want to inform the local guys to go take a look.

This kind of junk should be taken off the market to keep the integrity of everything else.
