Brad,
I have not driven a 914 Wevo without the gate shift. I have mixed feelings about the gate shift because the shift from 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th have to be exaggrated (over and up). I have missed the shift from 2nd to 3rd too many times to count and that's with almost two years of track events on the car.

However, I think the gate shift does play a valuable role in saving the transmission from selecting two gears.

I've employed the local 915 expert to handle this one. I'll post pictures if they become available.

After installing the Wevo side shift, do not put any fore/aft preload on the casting when you mount it in the car. In other words, don’t force it to line up with the transmission mounts. Modify the transmission mounts if they don’t align with the Wevo casting. The PO (or his mechanic) preloaded mine and it eventually snapped off the mounting ears. I had to remove the Wevo casting and have the ears TIG welded back on the casting. I then modified the mounts to eliminate the preload problem.

OR -

You can use the new WEVO 914 SS Transmission mounts that have slotted holes to help eliminate installation "Errors"....

The SS mounts do a better job of locating the transmission - eliminating some of the skew loads that can be applied by both the soft rubber mounts, or a solid mount.

Regards

Hayden

I wish you better luck with your Wevo conversion than I've had with mine!

The Wevo parts look good and it'll probably work OK, but it took 15 months and 6000 bucks to have the mods done. Also, I had an oiling sysem (pump, cooler, spray bars) and was ensured this would be maintained. Unfortunately when I finally got my trans the oiling system was removed (thanks alot!). I paid extra for my 915 because it had the cooling mods, now I have useless spare parts and a hole to fill before I can even put oil in it.

I was also told that the deal included the shift coupler and shift rod and somehow they didn't make into the box either.

Sorry for the rant.......but it's very discouraging to finally build your dream 914, extend yourself doing it, trying to do everything right and unfortunately trusting a "914 guru" to be honest and provide a professional service only to be dissed on schedule, price, promises and parts. I only hope the tranny actually works! I've had an expensive lesson in the "Emperor's Clothes". (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/headbang.gif)

Hmmm.....I wonder how long before this message is removed........

I have some news for you: We dont delete threads. Anyone who STARTS a thread can delete it. When they do this.. we capture it in a holding area. So.. if you have "living" proof of a thread that was deleted... show us. I'll compare it to our "trash bin" where we collect them.

Now. Let me ask you this: Who did you write the check too for your tranny ?

I have no idea when it shipped to you, but the last time I was in that building was the first week of Dec. last year and the tranny build had just started. I wasnt around for the final assembly or shipping. 6k ? Pretty cheap considering the core that was sent to them. The pinion bearing fix alone is almost a 1k by itself. The kit was at least 1900$ if not more.

Sorry I left before the job was done.
