With so many 914 engine and transmission swaps and combinations, I was wondering if any 914's with automatic transmissions exist. Anyone know of one out there?

What a great idea. It's a perfect car for paddle shifters. Any of those out there by any chance?

Wouldn't be too hard to use a period correct 911 sport-o-matic if you can find all the parts.

Always wanted to put a modern audi tiptronic in one with an audi engine, they came with paddleshifters. But they are not Dual clutch or anything so they shift slow like a normal automatic. You can tune the trans some but it just wont get to that dual clutch speed.

I am counting the years till the PDK becomes a realistic price. That would be an amazing trans in a 914.

I have thought about that.. There is the auto clutch set up that has a switch on the shifter..

I actually thought there were a few 914's produced with the sport-o-matic option.

George at AA has a 6 with sport-o-matic
and it is super rare. Just because it is rare does not mean there are not a lot of people that want it.

You are thinking correctly, which is why i posted the above.

There were only about 25-ish 914s made with sporto.

Compare that to thousands of 911s and you can see why the odds are much better to find one of those in working condition.

I saw this on the web. I have too much time today.

Bob B

Dear Mr. Knutsson,

Thank you very much for your letter of October 10.
Referring to the latter and to our phone call of
October 9, we herewith inform you that of the type
914/6 Sportomatic we built a total of five cars for
experimental purposes.

Your car, which is a really rare one, was exported
to Sweden in February 1971.

In the hope of thus having been of some assistance
to you, we remain,

Sincerly,

Dr. Ing. h.c.F.Porsche
Aktiengesellschaft
Public Relations - Sports
i.V.

Jürgen Barth

Porsche Panorama, October 1995, Page 84
"Gacek's 1993 certificate of authenticity from the factory indicates that there were 21 Sportomatics built in the 1971 model year" "An inquiry was directed to Porsche North America to confirm the correctness of these numbers and to shed some light on the 914/6 Sportomatic quantities. PCNA's answer was that there were, in fact, 21 914/6 Sportomatic cars built in the 1971 model year plus another four cars built in the 1970 model year for an overall total of 25 cars." "The majority of 914/6 Sportomatics went to European customers and it is not known how many are currently in the United States."

Not this again ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

I personally have over 15 VINs of 914s that came with sporto. Please don't perpetuate that 5 cars only myth.

i thought only the/6 had sporto's. i dont know about 22k for one. i will sell the whole thing (pedal cluster, shifter, servo, harness, trans, linkage, oil tank and lines, etc.) for $1250.00. i dont see why it would not work on a /4. its just a 901 box.
