Does anyone make a good repro glove box? For early cars?

I don't think anybody makes a repro ... you just have to find a nice one somewhere. There is a flocking product on the market to refurbish stained ones.

If the basic box is sound, then re-flocking the inside will make it appear new again like mentioned above.
I did this on mine, and it came out great. If your box is broken, sometimes repairs can be made with a fiberglass kit you pick up in your neighborhood auto parts store....then re-flock. Are you just missing yours? Or does it need repairs/re-flocking? |

You have to have a flocking gun to shoot the particles of the flock on or if you just sprinkle the flock on it does not stand up nicely. I used to use this process for the bottom of sculpture I made of King Tut in the 70s
You paint the part with slow dry oil paint of the same color of the flock you are going to use and then spray the flock on and let it try. It is a mess but can give you a nice flocked part if you do it right. Someone should just do a service for our glove boxes as it is more a hassle to set up for it and when you buy flock you get a big bag. I did mine in my spray booth. Bob B |

My flocking kit came with a plastic squeeze bottle that worked great. No need for some fancy spray gun.
I was thinking about doing a re-flocking service for about $30-35. Wonder if there would be any interest? |

Just offer rebuilt ones on the site and see. Get some old ones and hit them and take pictures and let the people look. To look like velvet you need the right gear.

How do you tell difference between early and late anyways (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) I believe the older ones (approx. pre 1973) were wider, because the cars did not have the side vents. Which also meant wider glove box door, and "indent" on the underbelly of the top dash |

Small part fiberglass layups aren't to big a deal. You would be surprised how little it takes to make odds and ends. Wax paper, light oz cloth, resin.......patience. I hang out at a fiberglass boat repair shop, it's amazing what these guys can do when no replacement parts are available for one off race boats.
We did Lotus Elan and Europa fixes using the simple techniques. A glove box doesn't look like to big stretch. Just a thought, it don't me right |
