I'm selling my 1975 914 Beach Boys Racing convertible conversion shell as the perfect body to swap parts from your current car into. If you have a terminally rusty 914, (Many members on this site know how that feels) this can let your car live on in a new body.

The shell underwent extensive rust removal and repair in 2009 and had a new coat of the original red paint put on, but was never re-assembled. This car comes with a brand new and unused convertible top, cover, cover rods, and top frame. (everything that came with the conversion except the glass). From what I've heard about the BBR kit, the top is usually from a Porsche 356 speedster or a Mercedes SL, both extremely expensive to find separately. Beach boys racing converted these cars for years, but there's only a handful still out there and this entire shell will cost less than a fraction of the expense associated with attempting the conversion today. This is also a professionally done conversion by the best, so you should expect the fitment to be perfect of all of the convertible parts.

These shells don't sell often, especially not after a complete rust removal like this one. Anyone here can tell you that just swapping the parts from your car to a new shell will always be significantly cheaper and easier than having it repaired, so why not chose a unique body style with minimal effort. I included about 70 pictures of every angle of the car showing every square inch and even a handful of pictures from when the conversion was being done in the link below. I'm located in Boca Raton Fl and can help you load it onto a trailer if you chose to pick up. If you don't like it, please keep all opinions out of the sale thread. I also have this posted elsewhere, as i'm looking for a quick sale.

The Good:
-RUST FREE
-Clean FL Title
-Completely solid with perfect door alignment
-Original 2.0L Car
-New paint job in original color (has a few blemishes, but looks great)
-Brand new top
-Expensive top frame is included
-Looks like it hasn't seen rain in the last decade
-Side Intakes allow perfect cooling with the top either up or down.
-Top can be opened and closed in seconds without having to get out of the car
-Never been in an accident
-All parts from any year or model 914 will bolt right in with no real modification required, other than some odds and ends such as glass side windows.

The Bad
-It's just a shell. Don't expect much more than the body and the parts for the convertible top.
-There is damage on the rear fiberglass cross bar from the trunk opening too far, but it can easily be repaired by pretty much anyone. (See Pics)
-Needs new lexan side windows, but can be ordered cheaply from the included booklet.
-The trunk lid is pretty beat up and doesn't close all the way, it is the only panel other than the cross bar to have any damage of any kind. (See Pics)

ASKING $1900 OBO

Is this what you are selling? A rolling shell in this picture? With the Fuchs?

What parts come with it?

Nope, just the shell and parts for the top. The pictures are from the various stages of the car's life from standard Targa top form to fully stripped shell as it sits now. The current pictures of the car are the ones in the garage on jack stands. I mostly bought the car for the wheels and couldn't bring myself to hacking up a clean rust free BBR conversion. I knew someone would love to have this. This is a non rolling shell, with no suspension.

I'm not sure about most of the recent history of this car, I only just purchased it recently from a local 914 re-seller in a sale for the wheels that came with it. I was initially planning on using the parts to repair my rust damage , but the condition of the shell was significantly better than I thought, and the body could be put to better use by someone who is looking for something like this. I never met someone named Shane during the deal, but the re-seller i bought it from could have initially gotten it from him. Any extra info on the car would be appreciated, this is a good shell and I believe someone will like to know the extra history.

Because you do not have this as a rolling shell it makes it very hard for someone to get it and deliver it back to their shop or home.

If you got old roller suspension and wheels and put it in, someone may want this just for what it is. Some guys are into the Beach Boys Racing look but not that many these days.

I currently have the car on a set of rolling dollies that allows it to be rolled right onto and off of a trailer and get safely strapped down. I do have the full four lug suspension that I can throw in if you want, but since I don't have a set of wheels installing the spare components wouldnt make much of a difference. If anyone wants this just shoot me an offer, in a few days this is going up on eBay motors.

Can you provide a pic of the inside eng. bay?
How/where do the cold air inlets exit, how are they finished?
How does this design prevent water from entering the intake tract if connected?

There are pictures of the engine bay and added cooling ducts in the imgur link below the main pics. The water drains out of the stock drain holes in the engine tins, but isn't really a problem at all. You can put mesh behind the openings to stop most of it, but it still was never a problem when the car was complete.

can you tell me how under side of car was done, such as pans and longitudinal.
Curious to know how car is reinforced with the roll bar being removed. Would
like to see pictures.

I have complete rusty 914, looking for unusual donor body.

Thanks,
Brucel

The uni-body was stiffened with custom longitudinal reinforcements when the conversion was done by the team at Beach Boys Racing and according to all accounts, it felt just as stiff as (if not stiffer than) the stock 914. From what I've read, they used "rollbar type steel tubing" inside of the frame rails, so it can't be seen from the outside. The DVD included shows the entire process of the build step by step and shows how they overcame each problem including the reinforcement. As it sits, the door gaps are perfect and there is no flex whatsoever, even with the front end raised up. Although the pictures i have can't show the inner reinforcements, there are a few good shots of the underbody in that imgur link.

Here's one of the threads about the conversion where your point was brought up and answered:
