Was hoping to trade good karma, or failing that then beer and a hearty thank you, to eyeball a car for me.

Before anything else I would like to thank several people here for their help, especially Rob.
Rob was kind enough to make a detour to inspect the car and spends quite a bit of time with me on the phone walking through it. I have some Blue Moon put aside for him but I wanted to publicly say Thank You! The car I question looks a lot like this... |

Purchased 2 years ago, this was to be a father - son project. Only 2 years ago, his son would have been 2-3? It sat. Probably started regularly but not driven.
So, condition. It had rust colored stains in all the usual places but nothing serious. It is abundantly original with the only modification I could find the aftermarket exhaust you see. The interior is in need of a total redo, but 914rubber has made that pretty easy. There are slight dents and one spot where the paint and primer is totally gone, but I couldn’t find bondo with a magnet. The rear bumper is in need of some chrome polish and a new bumper top. The front needs a trip to Ogden Chrome for a spa day. Oh, and a new top. In short, this is a pretty incredible find. I’d say the guy could have asked 2-3 times more and gotten it. I was all set to call Whitesell if Tom passed but, he took my advise and made a pretty decent deal on it. Congratulations Tom! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/evilgrin.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/evilgrin.gif) The documents that I found in the car suggest it was stored for 15+ years and was in Nevada before that. Mileage may be original/first time aeound |

The blue sticker on the left side of the front bumper is a base access sticker for Nellis AFB and the date codes would put it around the time the car was newish. Red would indicate a basic enlisted man, gold would mean a non-commissioned officer. Blue is an officer. Nellis is an F16 base so maybe a pilot? At any rate, that also leads to a Nevada existence as Nellis is just outside Las Vegas.

Pilot as an owner would tend to match the car not being messed around with. Thanks Rob! |

If indeed that is original paint...then its also a euro model...perhaps imported to the US by your airman via free C130 USAF transport?
No front side markers No front bumper guards (this is a 73 right?) 74+ steel wheels.... hmmm, these seem not original. |

Nice color for sure. I think you are building a nice fleet in short time.
Enjoy, Bob B (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) |

Back in the day, you could buy a car and drive it while you were overseas and then, ship it back... this could be a euro 1.7... I’ve been out of the military for over a decade so I don’t know what current policy is. There were bumper guards. They are in the front trunk. |
