This bag was in the trunk of a '75 914 I acquired. Can anybody tell me if it is original to the car, and what was it for?

That looks very much like factory bags provided in other P cars, from early 80's thru 993 run, cabriolets (944,911,964,993), for the boot. Some had a Porsche crest in the vinyl, most didnt. Very common to find at swaps and evilbay. My 964 has one just like that. I use one in my 914 to carry cleanup stuff and things like that.

Yup, factory bag. Used to hold one pound or less of weed. The factory discontinued use of these in ‘73. Their justification was that most cops didn’t even know the front trunk existed on a 914, so there was no need to try to hide your weed in a bag. Cost cutting measure by the factory.

I wonder how it ended up in a ‘75?

Silly me. I used to use the space behind the console gauge panel for crossing into Canada back in the 80s. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smoke.gif)

Yeah they didn’t look there either! Of course the bag was convenient so you didn’t spill any weed after a spirited drive.

In the 'Nam we had Gold Leaf cigarettes; standard packaging of 20 w/filters. DO NOT SMOKE ONE ALONE....you'll be lost for days.
