EDIT - I FORGOT TO INCLUDE THE LAS VEGAS CONCOURS ON SEPT 28, SO I'VE ADDED IT BELOW & MADE A FEW RELATED CORRECTIONS.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif)

FYI - If you're interested in going for the year-end Zone 8 Concours awards, there's still time & shows to make it.

You'll need to enter either 33% (4) of the 10 11 Concours listed below including one out of state; or enter 51% (6) of the 10 11 if all are in-state (you'd have to have entered some of the first 5 to get this);

Plus in both cases you'll need to earn 300 service points by volunteering either as a judge (100 per event) or runner/timer/scoring/etc. (75) & other event volunteering at various Zone 8 events.

Zone 8 Concours earlier in 2019 to date:

1. Zone 8 Awards CdE in Woodland Hills / Jan. 19,
2. Cal Inland (Santa Clarita)/ April 13,
3. Southern AZ (Tuscon area) / May 4,
4. Grand Prix (Long Beach/Lakewood area) / May 5
5. Orange County Region (Dana Point) / June 15

Upcoming Sept-Nov 2019 Zone 8 Concours events:

6. LA Region / Sept 15
7. San Gabriel Valley Region / Sept 22
8. Las Vegas (Red Rocks CdE) / Sept 28
9. Santa Barbara Region / Oct 13
10. San Diego Region / Oct 19
11. Arizona Region (Phoenix area) / Nov 2

So go pick your Division & for it! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cheer.gif)

> Wash & Shine (Exterior & Interior only judged)

> Street (above plus Engine & Storage [both trunks on a 914] judged)

> Unrestored (same as Street, but must have 75% orignal paint & 75% original interior)

> Ubergang (for newer Porsches with no engine access, so Ext/Int/Stor)

> Full Concours (adds Undercarriage with & without engine to Ext/Int/Eng/Stor)

> Ganz Ubergang (same as Full, but no Engine)

> Special Categories (Ext/Int/Eng/Stor - per subdivs. below - see Rules for more details)
- SC1 - Unique or Modified Porsches, incl non-Porsche Engine
- SC2 - Raced Porsches within past 12 months
- SC3 - Limited Production Porsches

All areas are judged the same - no matter which Division, but the number of areas 2, 3, 4, 6 are the only differences in how much is judged - therfore how many you'll need to prep, clean & detail for judging.

There is a 914 only Class in every Division above (as well as for the other Porsche models' Classes) - except for SC, where the Subie/V8/EV/etc engined would enter; SC2 where raced 914s would enter; or 916s & factory 914-8s & any other one-off or low number factory numbers or prototypes would be in SC3 - & it's subdivisions are all inclusive for all models, but they're usually very small numbers entered at most shows.

ALL of the above Divisions have annual awards for both overall Division plus for each Class by model type - or for SC1, SC2, SC3 - so plenty of hardware to go around!

Cheers! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

If anyone wants to check or track their &/or others' scores for the Zone 8 Season Concours Results for any year or show or standings so far, then you can go to the link below:

https://www.zone8.org/events/results/2019/concours.php

If you want to look at other years' results &/or other event types, then use the Events tab at the top bar, pick results, pick year, then pick event (AX, TT, Concours)

.

Also, if you want to qualify for the year end Annual Zone 8 Awards in any type of event, then you'll need to join PCA - but many events will allow you to enter them without being a member, as was the case with our OCR Concours & a many others. However, if you do this & then later that year enter, then you'll have to work with the

You need to be a PCA member for Zone 8 Annual Awards, so sign up if you're interested in doing that.

IMHO it's a great deal if you're into Porsches, even if you never attend anything, & only get the great magazines! At $46/yr for you + 1 memberships, the monthly Panorama (better than Excellence IMHO, which is more), their Regional magazine, many free & lo cost events, including AX, DE, TT, Rally, etc.

For example, beyond those road & track events & annual Concours - our OCR has 1-2 events every week of every month - at least one informal meet-n-greet at an eatery for breakfast or dinner - including in 5th weeks!

So go for it! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cheer.gif)

UPDATE ON HOW ZONE 8 ANNUAL AWARDS ARE CALCULATED

The question came up from another member on here about how to go about going for the Zone 8 Concours Awards, so here's the basics:

If you're interested in going for the year-end Zone 8 Concours awards, there's still time & shows to make it - including a couple of extra that the low scores won't count.

They will take your top 4 scores from the entire season to calculate your annual award score - with the rest not counted, then that 4 event total is compared with the top 4 scores' aggregate for all other qualifying competitors (33% with 1 out-of-state [4] or 51% if all in-state [6], plus 300 Service Points - read below).

They will do this in each Division & for each Class or SC1-3 subdivision, then make an award for any & all which have a qualifying competitor or more, with the top score (only 1 in anything is an auto win, but not really because you've done all the work to prep, show & qualify) - with the top point scoring car in each Division getting a Division Annual Award (see Divs. at 1st post above). Thereby, in the end you'll have both awards from the individual events, plus the annual award(s).

"Yes Virginia" - it is possible for any car to beat out for an Annual Zone 8 Award, another better scoring car(s) that didn't do enough shows &/or didn't get their Service Points &/or failed to actually join PCA! Some people just want to do 1 or a few local shows, & that's all.

Best Top 4 Scores Wins
- If you do 33% with 1 out-of-state, or 51% of Shows + 300 Service Points.

You'll need to enter either 33% (4) of the 11 Concours listed above including one out of state - so either AZ or Las Vegas will count for the 1 out-of-state; or enter 51% (6) of the 11 if all are in-state (you'd have to have entered some of the first 5 Concours in order to qualify under this, to get to 6 with 2-4 in the past shows, & the remainder in the remaining ones - at least 2 in CA + 4 to go in CA = 6);

Those of you from AZ or NV Regions would need to travel to the out of state shows anyway in order to get the minimum 4 (i.e.: some combo of 1 NV &/or 1-2 AZ &/or 1-8 CA shows), & would have to get more than 1 out-of-state show, in order to make the 33% (4) shows (2-3 for AZ or 3-4+ for NV folks);

There are 6 more Zone 8 Concours left for 2019, & they only count your top 4 show scores for Annual Zone 8 Awards - so there are a couple of opportunities to do test run entries, then improve your scores from there.

Plus in all cases you'll need to earn 300 service points by volunteering either as a judge (100 per event) or runner/timer/scoring/etc. (75) & other event volunteering at various Zone 8 events.

As noted in the prior post above, you need to be a PCA member for Zone 8 Annual Awards, so sign up if you're interested in doing that. At $46/yr for you + 1 memberships, the monthly Panorama (better than Excellence IMHO, which is more), their Regional magazine, many free & lo cost events, including AX, DE, TT, Rally, etc.

.

Remember - this is a cleaning/detailing/prep competition - NOT based on originality at all (other than to qualify for Unrestored Div. with 75% original paint & interior).

And it is NOT for only perfect cars! Patina, chips that have been touched up, carpet redyed or worn, etc., etc. would NOT drop you out!

So do NOT be scared off on this, & just go for it! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cheer.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)

.

PM or email me if you have any other questions.

Cheers! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Well apparently "Automobile" magazine had a reporter/photographer at the 9/15 LA Region's Concours, held at the Museum of Flight next to Santa Monica Airport.

I caught it in this morning's issue of Automobile eMagazine, but don't know if it will also be in the print edition.

So look at the article & 81 pics here -

https://www.automobilemag.com/news/porsche-...735892595791AF5

I saw SoCalAndy's yellow -6 there, & 2-4 other 914s which I didn't connect a name/face with there too (dang half-zymers - a Marathon Blue, Adriatic Blue?, & any others there with your 914 but not in the pix), because I wasn't there to help with judging.

If it were any members 914s at that LAR CdR, then please PM me with your mailing address, & I'll post you a 914 50th decal for showing up for judging, display, or to just see the show (Adriatic Blue? - possibly just parked out front on display?).

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif) There are still several Concours in SoCal to enjoy, Santa Barbara this weekend (10/13 in T-oaks) & San Diego on 10/19, plus AZ 11/2 - if anyone needs an out-of-state show to qualify for Zone 8 Annual Concours Awards.

FYI - to qualify for Z8 awards, you'll need to have showed in 33% of them with 1 out-of-state, or 51% without any out-of-state, based on all shows to qualify - but only the top 4 shows' scores are counted; as well as needing 300 service points over the year for volunteering: Judging is 100, Runner/Timer/Scorekeeper/etc. are 75 points.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif) So get busy! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/type.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/FERG.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)

Enjoy! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
