what should I expect Lots of cutting, welding and cursing. Also lots of cash spent by the time you are done. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sawzall-smiley.gif) The engine looks too high to fit into the engine compartment, but i may be wrong about that ... I know pic says lv1, same motor without Active Fuel Management.
Neat motor, I was looking at them for a swap into my Volvo 242. You can do a standalone with the factory ECU. |

I know pic says lv1, same motor without Active Fuel Management. Neat motor, I was looking at them for a swap into my Volvo 242. You can do a standalone with the factory ECU. Those engines are pretty reliable and powerful. Also they are pretty cheap. I was able to pick this engine up for $1500 45k miles Which trans do you recommend I was thinking of turning the car into a auto what options do I have as far as going with a automatic trans? |

Is that the motor that revs to 8300?
I considered it but I found a low mileage LS1 with some extra bits for low bucks. You can go onto YouTube and listen to different exhaust systems for this motor. I personally liked the Borla the best with the X pipe. Sounds V8 at idle the on the top end kind of Ferrari. Kennedy makes the adapter for several trannys that you can put in there. You may be able to keep the stock water pump due to the shorter size. The LS1 you need an electric water pump. Could I get a favor from you? I need the measurement of that motor from the front to the rear of the block. I have had something in the back of my mind for a while (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

The picture you posted looks like a regular domestic type transmission, not a transaxle.
You do know the difference, don't you? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welcome.png) |

That transmission will not work. As Larmo says, you need a transaxle.
A Subaru WRX or STi trans with 4wd-delete might work - depends on being able to get the drive shafts in alignment with the rear wheels. There will be lots of fabricating to get anything to work, though. Also, with the auto, I'm thinking the electronics will need to be configured to talk to each other. |
