Pushing off from Madison this morning. Maybe get to Omaha, depending on how things go. Not a big fan of 12 hr driving stints. The computer says 1300 miles to go. See you later,

Get your motor running....
Here I am holed up for the night just short of Omaha. Longest daylight of the year, but I stopped early. I don't have a lot of disc material around L3-L5, and I was getting a twinge of sciatica. |

Well we are on our way at 8.30 today Tues from where the West Coast Route66 begins or the ends. First stop is a night in Las Vegas The Venetian. Wend on to the Grand Canyon and then on to meet up on Thurs.
Guards Red 997 Targa ready and so are we. See you soon if all goes well. I have not been on a long road trip for 40 years. 40 years ago, I drove a 69 Jag XKE from Chicago to Los Angeles Route 66 Best Bob Burton/ Bob B and Mark S. Sometimes you run out of time and have to farm out the work.
I dropped the NARP off at Don Jackson Enterprises this morning so he can tune it and get it to pass emissions. If he has time, he'll clean up some of the nasty birds nest of wiring some previous owner inflicted on the car and then maybe he'll find time to wrap up the final details on the AC. As long as he gets it to pass emissions, I'll be happy. We will be leaving Phx early Thursday morning and will see you all some time later in the evening. |

Just a heads up, we currently have over two dozen wild fires burning here in AZ. Below is the best site I've found to track highway closures. So far, you guys should be unaffected but keep an eye out and travel safe!

Deb and I made it to Santa Fe at 430. I-40 from Flagstaff was boring as hell and had a few 1-lane sections but traffic moved well.

So far, you guys should be unaffected but keep an eye out and travel safe! AZ Highway Closures Thanks for the tip. Pretty much what my wife said on the phone. I got to Hugoton KS today, and am a bit ahead so far. Thank god i put in the tall gears. I copied your under the car oil cooler from your original build thread. So farso good. The geezer behind the wheel overheated some though. Never saw such vast piles of food before in my life. Huge grain silos, huge cow silos, fields of wheat. Then there are oil wells, windmills and ethanol plants. This is one rich nation taken as a whole. See you tomorrow, God willing. I have a sound that i think is an exhaust leak. Car is too hot to get near right now though. Wind is running about 30 knots, making steering kinda interesting. Found my side view mirror folded back, so i reset it. Next semi with a cow trailer on it blasted the thing flat against the door. Like closing with two dozen Escalades at 140 mph, and they have all their windows rolled down dragging wind. Regular trailers had no effect. I learned to swerve away as they approached. Like the Warren Zevon album, Learning to Flinch. |

Several of the closures effect routes I am considering. I am going up through Payson. I'm trying to decide if I want to head north on 377 to I40 or head east on 260, 61 and 53 through the Zuni nation. I've been across I40 several times in the past and I'm thinking a change of scenery could be fun but I am also nervous about being so far off the beaten path in a 50 year old car. |

I.m in Prescott...don.t know what day you are leaving....I.m leaving Friday. 1-17 then through Sedona to I.40. The roads through the Zuni Nation are pretty remote. You can PM me if you like.
