I have one here, but don't think its strong enough for real V8 use. ITs fine for four cylinder and maybe some V6 uses, but its too weak for a V8 with any real power.

@Andyrew has a trans comparo vid on his Budget Outlaw channel, below.

There is an Audi box (012) that is essentailly the same as the Boxster 5 speed. Not as torque proof as the Boxster S but if you're not launching hard, probably it'd work fine.

I wonder if an Audi A7/A8 box from Europe would work?
I think the A7 has some serious power…

Nvm….brain fart on the mid engine side axle bit….

I have an Audi 01E 6 speed paired with my V8. Can’t recall at the moment what it is out of, but a European FWD diesel IIRC.

The 01E gearbox and other derivatives are commonly used over here for Ford GT40 replica builds and they seem to hold up for that. (guessing 300-400 hp is a common range)
Then again you can abuse anything to breakage if you are determined enough but I dont think many 914's run wide enough tires for this to be a problem. The tires will break loose before anything in the gearbox gives up.

This is going a little off topic, but that's actually not true. It's not so much a traction thing as an wheel acceleration thing. So if you apply a ton of power it doesn't matter if the tires hook up or not, you can still grenade the gearbox. I've read some papers with this data, and also measured it myself on a racecar with strain gauges attached to both axles. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I have a 01e transaxle behind my LS1 (255-40-17). No issues thus far, but I'm also gentle with it. I have read that the GT40 replica guys run up to 500HP through them and opine that that's about the limit.
