The '71 has engine turned aluminum sill guards. They extend from under the speaker housings to halfway along the door opening, from the top edge of the sill to the floor, and are held on with slot headed screws.

Anyone know if these were period accessories, or something more recently kluged together?

My red car had those, Keep Them! They are worth some $$ and were a dealer option from what was told to me, I was offered 150 for mine and mine also had a small section that was on the door panel itself. I turned down the offer, cause I didn't want holes showing in my door, and I liked the look. They drew lots of comments. Ferg.

Oops! Had 'em, didn't like 'em, tossed 'em. My '73 also had matching dash trim replacing the basket weave. Tossed that too! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/fighting19.gif)

Garry,

Yeah, I have the engine turned dash plates too! Unfortunately, some weenie peeled back the center section 'removing' a radio. It is now trash.

I also realized that when the roll cage goes in, the spiffy sill plates have to go.

Yup, them's is the ones on my car. I had no idea they were some sort of option. I just figured my car's PO had them made or something. I think they are mighty cool. Everyone notices them at a 914 event also (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif)

They could be from amco?? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) The guy who wanted mine said they were a hard to find dealer installed option, which could mean anything.

I had one on a chassis that I owned for about 6 months.

I also had a brushed panel for the rear of the car.. where the rear reflector would go. It was fugly.

Now diamond-plate might look cool.... just kidding! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Looks aftermarket like Amco or something.

If it is a long lost dealer option, I think it would have matched the fluted door sills.

yes, i remember those. a somewhat popular niche accessory from the late 70's. they were made for 911's too, by the same company - but i don't recall who it was. i unpacked a big box of Panoramas the other night, but i think all my pre-80 issues got water damaged and became landfill. radios and AC were dealer items too... i saw a pair of engine-turned 911 sill plates go as a door prize at a SDR Christmas party one year, didn't do anything for me but they really lit up the eyes of the guy who took 'em home, so 'tweach his own' ...

Nope, mine look different. They extend twice as far aft. I guess I better get the digital camera figured out.
