Only four 914's on the track this weekend.
Mine plus these three others.

Probably because the HSR (Historic Sportscar Racing) series was at Daytona, supporting the Grand Am races. I must have seen at least fifteen or twenty race-prep'd 914s there this weekend. A pleasant surprise, as I had no idea HSR would be there. I really love the vintage stuff...particularly GTP! Unfortunately, I really didn't get to see that much of the racing as I was preoccupied with working on our car.

John,
Great pics, that 959 bodied car is Carl's old siverstate car. It should still be running the supercharged 3.6L, although its been rebuilt several times by now. Oh, I got the scoop on exactly what happened with the car. A nearly identical car had a fatal crash due to instability at speed, and they never could get that car properly sorted, mainly attributed to the fact that a 959 body is not all it takes to get 959 stability. To take it to 200mph was a serious throw of the dice. Thanks.

My *home* tracks are Laguna Seca & Sears Point

What is the Vegas Speedway like?

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/finger.gif) (I'm just jealous that you have such great tracks so close.)

The new outside Vegas track is fantastic!
The transitions to the new areas do need a little work. I am looking forward to the next race here. My times in my 4 cyl. were 2:12's. The fast 6's were doing 2:05's. The inside road course is also great to drive. The rent is very high so club racing does not use it often. There is also a track in Pahrump called Spring Mountain Motor Sports Park. It is the home for Bragg Smith driving school. It is the bussiest track I have ever been on. It is also the only one in the area with any elevation changes.

what size of wheels and tires are you guys all running.
brant

The biggest ones that are class legal.
15 x 7 wheels with 205-50's on the front and 225-50's on the rear.

And man does it sound sweet.
Carl was at the track on Saturday. He is still having some problems with his arm. (after rolling his twin-turbo)

Three things I learned this weekend.

1.) Don't punt an Alfa with your 911.
2.) Don't back your 914 into a workers station.
3.) My mechanic was happy because I had gained 3 spots and the car was running strong. (don't tell him that I fell back 5 more places after I did a spin halfway thru the race)

One more group of pictures.
I trust that you don't consider this wasting band-width.
(I know I enjoy seeing photos in other post.)

If this looks like fun . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . IT IS !
Next time there is somthing in your area . . . . . . . .. GO!
(and be sure to drive your teener. Leave the truck at home.)

John,

Really great pictures!

Thanks for the shot of the formula cars. The two front Formula Fords, numbers 40 and 115, are both Titan Mk 6s, what I used to drive. Thanks for the memories.

Re your trans swap. Doesn't look like you have it down to the Le Mans Audi level. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Looks like a fun track. I plan on making any fall events.
