The side marker wart was a U.S.DOT only requirement.
The factory did not install them on 914s for other markets... Can you spot the DOT car in this picture? (IMG:http://members.rennlist.com/914_collectibles/zVPhFactory03.JPG) |

It looks like the second one has a red lense and the third has amber... Is there a red side marker in any countries?

C'mon guys . . . everyone gets their own opinions about stuff. Some people think that this is butt-ugly
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-2-1064821950.jpg) But I bet the guy that built it loves it. The moral of the story is, while we may all see things a little differently, lets at LEAST try to keep it Porsche related. Charles/Jeff/Alfred, would you please kindly rephrase your post so as it is less, or un-offensive, and please keep it Porsche related. And rather than blowing up at him, everyone else, just turn the other cheek and feel sorry for him. I have numerous relatives that just plain don't know any better. The truth is that we are all HUMANS, plain and simple and we (at least on here) all love Porsche's! So in the words of the famous Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along" Thank You -Chris |

mmmm. posts erased.
I've been wondering what to do with my side markers. I have 2 rigth hand covers so the left side one looks wonky anyway. I've been thinking about trying to do something cool with leds for all the lights, although I fear this will upset the flasher relay. (Flasher relay - race of people with no clothes except raincoats passing a stick every 200 meters (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) ) Fiid. |

People don't seem to be able to see the blinker on mine. Some idiot started yelling at me really loud to turn on my blinkers. He then pointed to my side marker. My front ones were working just perfectly at the time. I just shook my head and carefully drove on. I chalk it up as dumb Arss fools. But one day someone will not look and think I am not turning and plow into me. So I thought about retrofitting the side marker as an additional blinker. Any thoughts.

Actually - I wondered why they don't blink - doesn't make sense to me. Let me know how you do it :-)

I replaced a front left signal bucket once and hooked the wires wrong. The top one blinked normally and the side one blinked opposite of the top one. Looked like they were blinking in series. Don't know how I did it, but can't make it do it again

Will the existing turn signal circuit handle a higher wattage bulb? Easier to be seen from the front and at an angle.

I'm going to remove mine. Two less parts to worry about and they crack and break so easily.

QUOTE(vsg914 @ Oct 29 2003, 08:09 AM) I replaced a front left signal bucket once and hooked the wires wrong. The top one blinked normally and the side one blinked opposite of the top one. Looked like they were blinking in series. Don't know how I did it, but can't make it do it again (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) The blinking side markers is a modification we do in the Mk.III world (Golf III & Jetta III). http://www.kersur.net/~btillman/bob/garage...rker/index.html This explains it. Get a hold of a 914 wiring diagram and see if it's similar. Basically, you are taking the side marker ground lead and jumpering it to the turn signal input. (IMG:http://www.kersur.net/~btillman/bob/garage/vw/side_marker/schem_final.gif) I did this mod to my Jetta and a friend's. Super simple and works! I've had other peoples cars in that blind zone where they can't see the turn signals and both of you are going to merge to the same lane. With my side markers blinking it's never been a problem. I can understand why those of you would want to do such a modification. There has GOT to be someone here in this forum who could figure out an easy way to do this. C'mon guys, quite yapping and get to work! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) |

I just found this great picture of new 914s and noticed that the euro models don't have the warts. It was really just an excuse to post a great picture. |
