not even. unless i miss my guess, that's a 'Laser 917' kit car, bolts to a shortened VW bug pan.
i thought they were cool 25 years ago, thought about building one. i'm a little surprised there are any still together ... be quite the trick to mount a 6-cyl in one, although at that time, Corvair conversions were the rage ...

i was at a shop on an unrelated matter this past week. an older gent that worked there told me he was selling a car and asked if i wanted to see some pictures of it. i'm thinking here it comes. stoped me dead in my tracks. a manta ray, looks like a lola, tube frame, mid engine 350 chev with approx 375 hp (dyno), reworked corvair trans with muncie gears, disc's on all 4 corners. pictures looked great. needs final elect on the lighting. damn interesting. i wondered what hoops i would have to jump through to get it road legal and how i could afford the tickets. not a butcher job on the car. then he showed me the pictures of his drag bike kawasaki, and his drag boat. i asked him why he was selling. he's had both of his knees replaced and he has a hard time getting in and out of it. i'm still thinking hard. maybe just to turn it. i wonder what it could fetch , if it was marketed correctly? it weighs 1825 or so wet with 30 gallons of fuel on board. pretty astounding hp to lb ratio.

That monstrosity looks nothing like the beautiful lines of a 917...

It is totally disgusting and a disgrace to the VW frame it probably sits on.

The person who designed it, and the person who built it.. should be forced to drive a Ford Pinto for the rest of their lives... with a leaky gas tank!!!!

Wasn't this car featured in a cheesy 80's TV show called "Crazy like a Fox"? If memory serves some young guy and an old man rode around in one and solved mysteries. It was supposed to be funny that they didn't have anything in common and touching when they found out they had something in common when tracking down the bad guys. I think they gave the car a name like the Coyote or something like that.

I was like 8 years old and could spot it as a lame kit-car then on a lame show. How could any adult let this thing get made?

i'd forgotten the name of the series but i do remember it. actually - that car -was- a Coyote. very limited production - i think they built 8 cars. definitely not a Laser 917 tho

BLACH... what a POS....

Speaking of cheesy 80's shows.... what was that red car in Hardcastle and McCormick? (I think that was something a little better than this '917'....)
