i've been looking into building up my engine this winter and more specifically looking at a big bore kit, but got a few questions. first, how much will it cost? i've been looking at the 96mm kit, but would like as much as i can get out of the engine. the basic kit is around $350, but is that all i need, or are there other items involved? how much HP would i be looking at? is somewhere around 200hp out of the question? how many of you have actually done a kit like this? worth it?
thanks everyone in advanced |

Hey back up.. 200 is out of the question! You need more than just a set of pistons for something like that.
Jake makes some hellacious /4s, the ones in that range aren't very cheap, nor do they last like a regular one. I like your enthusiasm. You may find that taking a look at what a factory built /6 does, and then consider 100hp is the factory 2.0s big splash. http://www.pelicanparts.com/911/technical_...hassis_info.htm Note: The 73 2.4E motor is best suited to our stock cars (gearing, revs, peak, output) and 3.0/3.2 motors can last forever. Hey man..
I just did the big bore kit on my wifes car. She might have picked up 10hp from the conversion with rebuilt heads. Are we talking 2.0 to 96mm or 1.7/1.8 to 96mm ?? 200 is out of the question for a streetable 2056. I can get 200 out of a full race 2056 but it will set you back 15k. B |

200hp is a stretch. it won't last very long and will cost $$$$.
150hp out of a 2270 is more realistic, but as said by others (hey redshift (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ) just bigger pistons and cylinders won't do the trick. again, bring $$ ... Andy |

ya, its a 2.0 with FI... i have been planning on a 911 flat 6 conversion, but i'm not sure if that is going to come though now, so i've been looking for alternative options for getting more out of my car. i would be looking for suggestions up $2000 max, but if i was going to spend that, i would rather have a bigger engine and not just build the existing one.

The biggest problem with adding horses is making a package out of it.
I dunno bout you guys, but 1st is annoyingly short in the mildest of 2.0s, and yeah, I have skipped it before, but it's not right. I need a transaxle geared for 270-300 hp. My second is higher in the one car, I need a taller 1st, and a lower 5th, and this one will be a great 2.0 box. Building a box for more power is a roadblock to me right now. $$$ M |

do any of you have any experience with the 2.7 911 motor? how much hp could i get out of it? right now its stock, and i'll have to probably rebuild it since it's been having some problems...but what options do I have after that?
Edit: let me re-phrase that... for those of you who have experience, what would be the first thing you build up on a reasonable budget? |

Iam currently building a 96mm x76mm with a split duration cam, ported and flow tested heads with larger valves, 44 webers and I hope to get 140-150 HP This should .cost aprox. $4,000 with my son doing most of the labor.

For $2000, I would put it into the bank and let it accumulate interest for a few years. And add to it periodically. When that gets to $10K or so, do yourself a Six conversion! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) The 2.7 RS motor made 210 HP. Quite do-able. You're looking at carbs, though, unless you want to mess with MFI and pay someone to re-work an MFI setup for you. (That's something you can't do yourself.) Talk to JPIII about his RS-spec motor--or was it a bit over RS? I forget... The problem is that an RS-spec motor will likely put you over budget. Whoops. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) The 3.0 with carbs and headers will give you right around 200 HP straight out of the box. Probably more durable than the 2.7 RS, and won't generally need all of the "extra stuff" (case savers etc.) that a 2.7 rebuild will need. Note that you can do the Six conversion cheaper than $10K, but don't necessarily count on it... --DD |

200HP will cost you around 13,500.00 done the right way. My way.
Make it a 2270, and drive it... BTW, my 200HP powerplants will live as long as a 2270 OR LONGER as they use Nickies. Without stroke, serious headwork and etc 120BHP is ALOT, more than that is out of this world BS. |
