I went out to the garage and laid my cell phone on the ground to get this picture.

Attached Image

That is with a 1/2 inch adapter plate between the engine and trans.

I pulled your picture from your webpage of the alien's trans mount.

Considering you trim the transmission bellhousing, and you are only backed up that far, you should have room for the 6-speed.

The Alien is scheduled to get back in line to complete her resurection after Juergen's car is transported thru the space time continum on it's way home.

I received a special package from Marty today! We have talked about this for years. We finally made it happen.

When shopping for your exhaust needs don't forget Marty and MSDS! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/assimilate.gif)

I’m happy you get to go out and work on your own car again.
I hope you enjoy each moment alone…tinkering.

I’m finally getting this barn find to stop marking its territory.
Then fuel, etc etc
Once that is sold, my old 914 is going to get done…and painted, and driven again!!

You'll probably want this chart as well. https://www.rallispec.com/downloads/Transmi...hart_Public.pdf
This is the starter. https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk...a9%2BKatR%2Ffoj BTW Subaru gears makes a Quaif unit for the 5 sp transmission.

I got a bit lost on this thread.

Clay suggested I use a Boxster transaxle. Kent and I were talking about the the Subaru swap and he posted photos of the subaru unit as well. I have been thinking about changing out the 901.

Sorry for the confusion Rich. No changes on this end. Rick is looking at transmission options and needed to see the starter clearance on my '70 914. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

How does the length of the Subi trans compare with the 901 and the Boxster 6 speed?

Me too for the Nissan swap, target is 290 hp 270 tq. Also I posted weights somewhere. Suby is 100 lbs. 914 85 lbs. Box6 is 175 lbs iirc. I want to be able to flog it without concern and solid shifting would be nice for a change.

914. ~22" at the mount center bolt. ~24" at the muffler bracket mount.

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/live.staticflickr.com-431-1674173477.1.jpg)

Suby. >26" at the case plate w/ 2wd swap. ~28" at the shift rod. Diff is forward 1 1/2", looks like that will put you back to stock axle geometry.

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/live.staticflickr.com-431-1674173478.2.jpg)

You might find the German to German swap easier in some small ways. I had that benefit with my Japanese to Japanese matchup. The problem I had with the Box5 is the small flywheel/clutch vs the Nissan.

Liked the Audi/ Passat Transaxle stuff too. That looks like a nice option. I am totally into low buck solutions.

When I did my car, the low mileage Cayman 6-speed was about 4K.

The other alternative I had was a G-50. It would have to be run upside down, and I would have had to cut the trunk floor out to use it. And a clapped out G-50 was 10K.

And another thing to think about is that with a Boxster/Cayman trans behind the 928 motor, you are still eligible to participate in Porsche Parade. With a Subi or Audi box, you are not.

Don't know if that matters to you, or not.

I am posting a link you your thread her so it's easy to find. You have done some interseting research.
