Never really gave the Boxster transaxle a thought in 2003 when i started this experiment. Just using what I had at the time.

I just placed an order with 914rubber for my 6
While I am stalled on that car I decided to find out why the engine in the Alien locked up. Pulled it out thinking the worst like jumped teeth on the cam belt and valves holding the piston from turning
Loosened the belt tensioner and the cams moved fine the crank would not budge. On a hunch I pulled the starter. I had to knock it out with a brass hammer. I have never had one stick like that before.

It was way past time to do some badly needed maintenence anyway. I found cracked hoses connected to the CIS, cracked fuel lines and a leaking cam seal that have been that way since the last rebuild

As cool as that engine is Clay, mine will have more HP that the 32 valve. You may recall I had a cam failure some time ago. Here are the specs for the M28/11 Euro "S" engine I had originally.

80-83 ROW S M28-11/12, HP300/TQ263
Stamped: 187.03/188.03
Intake opens: (-9) BBDC, closes: 52 ABDC, duration: 223, centerline: 120.5 ATDC, advanced: 6.5
Exhaust opens: 37 BBDC, closes: 2 BTDC, duration 219, centerline: 107.5 BTDC
Overlap: (-7), separation: 114 {wide}

Since the block was damaged during the cam failure I had it bored from 4.7 to 5.0. You can only run 928 pistons in the Alusil block. So I had a set of 32 valve 5.0 pistons notched for 16 valve head. I did not fined another set of unobtanium Euro cams so I bolted on a set of US spec heads. The US engines are average 218 to 234 hp.

My damaged Euro heads were shaved in excess of the max cut to fix the damage caused by the broken cam. As a result I calculated the over cut and used Cometic head gaskets to lift the heads enough to allow valve clearance. I estimate the compression is around 10.5/1

Several years ago I purchased a 1984 S M28-21 engine that had a failed crank. The cam is the best of the 16 valve ROW engines. I have always wanted to swap these in but with a running car I couldn't bring myself to tear it down. With the starter issue it turned out to be the ideal time to made the upgrade. Here are the new cam specs.

84-86 ROW S M28-21/22, HP310/TQ295
Stamped: 211.00/212.00
Intake opens: (-6) BBDC, closes: 54 ABDC, duration: 228, centerline: 120 ATDC, advanced: 10.5
Exhaust opens: 43 BBDC, closes: 4 BTDC, duration 227, centerline: 109.5 BTDC
Overlap: (-2), separation: 109.5 {moderate}

So add the M28-21 cams to the high compression 5.0 short block with all Euro heads, intake and throttle body, no power steering, AC or mechanical fan and I have a serious HP gain.

I pulled the valve cover off the left side and removed the US cam. The difference from the right side US cam to the Left side "S" cam is clearly visible!

Sorry Mary, I had to wreck a perfectly good set of headers. The 928 must have more room to the sides and no transmission to get in the way. I ordered some bends from Speedway. Looks like I will just need to rotate the two rear tubes. The front two are sliced underneath so I could tip the tubes away from the engine slightly. This gave me the space I needed at the transaxle.

Here are some of the gory results soon to be on the mend. you can see the two front tube slots allowed me to move the collector away from the clutch cable pulley.

The left side will need the same treatment. The header is very hippy.
