MarinaCA airport we are inviting all 914 pilots to come out and AX their car at one of the premiere AX sites in Norcal. You don't need to be a regular AXer. Just come on out and see what your little car can do. these are Zone 7 AX dates and we are going to be running within the scheduled AXs. we are planning on sending out invitations to some of the fastest 914s in the western US. Including Tom Provasi, Steve Nieslony and others. some of the possible things will be, lunch provided both days, T-shirts, hats, etc. We will have a hotel with rooms available for folks coming in from more distant locals. this is a chance for all of you to stop talking and start driving your cars... no more excuses (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) more details to follow as plans come together. Put these days on your schedule and yes, you will be able to drive your car at this event no matter what kind of motor it has in it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I would suggest everyone that is planning on attending go to the GGR classification site and class their car according to our points system. That way everyone will also have a PAX index number for the weekend. PAX is used to have differently prepared cars compete effectively via a multiplication factor applied to your best time. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) http://comp.pca-ggr.org/rulcomm_cs/web/index.php By the time we have the Shootout, GGR should also have our new timing system up and running. Similar to what SCCA uses with bar code scanners etc. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) I am jhonny come lately and my 914 does not run but can I bring my 911? would love to come out and run and have fun with the rest. |

yes these are normal GGR, LPR Zone 7 AXs. so any Porsche is good to go.
make sure you come over to the far side of the tarmac. That is where you find all the 914s. |

Andy, just don't leave a trail of goop on the course (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I'll try. I'm surprised at how good this stuff works. Hopefully the rubber won't just come off in big chunks ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) Andy |

Hmmmm, hadn't thought of that scenario (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
I guess it is a possibility since those slicks are getting up there in age. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

Excellent turnout! I didn't do a headcount, but i'm guessing 25 914s or so ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif)
Britain took TTOD driving JPs "Shitbox". There were quite a few 914s in the overall top ten. I'm still trying to get used to all the gobs of power, but i felt like i was doing pretty well today. I can't get the car to rotate, too much stickage in the rear, so i'm going to play with the setup a bit for tomorrow. we shall see ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) Andy |

Just got home, tired and beaten ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yawn.gif)
Today went better, i was able to get the rear end to come around after i made the sway bar change this morning. My biggest problem now, i can't get the power on the asphalt !!! I was laying down 30 yards of rubber in a straight line coming out of a sweeper in 3rd(!) gear. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) Yeah baby, 3rd gear burnouts ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/burnout.gif) Amazing how much smoke there is inside those tires just waiting to be let out ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) I got the left rear tire down to the cords all around on the inside and the other three have patches of cord showing as well. Time for a new set ... Anybody got a Guard LSD they want to sell for the 901? I'm in dire need of one! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cheer.gif) Andy |

Whew what a weekend! Wrenching all day Sat and driving/racin all day Sunday.
BIG THANKS go out to Dan, Brad, Bill C, Mike, JP, Brit, Trek and all the many 914 guys and gals that helped make the Shootout the most fun and exciting AX I have been to yet. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) Personally, I had an OK day getting used to new tires, suspension, and gearing. It was my first race of 2008 and my skillz were dusty. My AX11, sticky DOTR 1.7 managed a 46.1xx by the end of the day, and with a few more tries I could have been in the 45s I think. Andy and Brad were blowing smoke out the back of the 3.6 like a weekend at the NHRA drags. Yes, Andy and Brad shared driver duties - they are still friends (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Grant and Dan shared the Olympic Blue Pirate ship and got up on 2 wheels several times. JP and Brit showed us all what years of careful prep and gifted driving can do - woop ass on the entire West Coast. Way to go guys! My hat is off to youz. Gary kicked ass too - I need a 6. Andrew B, our local PCA hot shoe, put on the BEST effort I have seen from him Sunday. After almost every run, the notebook came out, tire temps taken, air pressures etc. He was determined to put his blue Smurfy TIV ahead of the yellow Shotbox 6. Brit nipped his time on the LAST run, but skidded in to the cones after the timing clock and was penalized for that. Oh the drama! Brit deservedly took the 914 TTOD for the weekend. Super fun catching up with all the 914 gang...Bill, Brian, Demick, Tony, Randal, and everyone else who's name I have forgotten. See you next time at the races (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

This was a great event. Thanks again to Brad, Larry, JP, Trekkor and others who pulled this one togther. It was a blast. Fun to see so many people having a great time.
Great fun watching Andy burn rubber in 3rd gear. I had front row seat from my worker position as he lit tires up for good 30 yards! Wild stuff. JP's car was fantastic and was great seeing Andrew pulling off 914 TTOD yesterday. Even more amazing was fact he switched to DOT R hoosiers for the first time and ran radials on a car that has been on bias slicks at every event for past few years. I like this Photo that Mike Koozman took. Pretty much sums up the weekend for me! Attached image(s) |

So I took waay too many pictures sunday, ended up with almost a gig.
I'm uploading every last one of them to a friend's server. I separated it into directories based on car number, and have 24 unique 914's! An excellent showing. http://lolinter.net/fail/8:3:08/ A couple notes: If I didn't get a picture of your car, I'm sorry, it means you were probably running right before me (I was grabbing the camera in between runs). I'm a lousy photographer, so I just dumped everything up there (almost 500 pics). To conserve bandwidth I thus listed cars by their # so you don't have to look at all the lousy shots of other people's cars. I'd love it if you linked the good photos of your/others cars to this or other threads. Along the above lines, linking 'em here is okay, but I'd appreciate if you rehosted them if you're going to post them outside of the 914 forums. |

Congradulations to JP and Britain. JP has worked hard to get his car to where it is today and deserves some satisfaction. What type of LSD is in JP's car and what is it set at. Just wondering to compare it to a track setup.

The coverage on this event is unsurpassed. An indication of how huge it was.
Kudos to Trekkor and Cliff for the great documentation in photos. And to all others as well. This was by far the best AutoX that I've been to. I'm inspired. Tony Capitola, CA |

good talking to you the other day Tony...glad you got out there and ran the car. Now you can start modding it.
I see a duplicate of the Puttputt in your future....multi-tasking 914. |
