Bob, you may be the only one of the group on 85 between Charlotte and Atlanta. I think the GA group is gonna rendezvous in Rome or north of there (sometime near noon would get everyone here in time for the tech session). So you can cut across on GA-20 (near Road Atlanta) or go all the way into town and around 285 and back up I-75 to reach the meeting spot- like Armuchee.

Hmmm...that's a long way away to get there at noon.... Rome is 5 hours from Charlotte, and we were not planning to do it in one straight shot. Huey is sprung pretty tight, and with race seats and harnesses (and a vague sense of a muffler)....not the most comfortable on long trips.

I guess if you guys are meeting then, we'll just have to meet you in Huntsville later.

What is a good way to go then? I'd prefer not all highway, but don't want it to take 10 hours either....

Taking 285 around noonish is not too bad. 20 is a slow two lane road. I think we are meeting at a McDonalds at the junction of I-75 & 20 around noon. The actual time is pending.

Anyone doing the autocross interested in a "tire warmer"?
I'm bringing my helmet and would love to test drive a "competetive" car.
Keep in mind, I'm near 6' tall and weigh 205lbs, so I don't fit in a small race seat.

I'd be willing to share my car at the AX. I'm just going to run on street tires, don't want to drag my R tires around all weekend.

Is the plan for the Atlanta group to meet at McDonald's at GA 20 and I-75 around noon? Are you all eating there? I am 30 minutes to an hour from there depending on route. From there are you going 20 to Rome to AL 9 to Al 35 to Ft Payne, etc? I am planning to take teener to work and leave from there. My office is on the west side of Rome, just off GA 20. I was thinking if you took that route, I would wait until you got close then wait for you in the Lowe's parking lot on 20. Or better yet at the Sonic where I could have one of their cocoanut creme pie milkshakes while I wait. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif) Lewis has my cell number and I can pm it to others.

Bob S. If I was coming from Charlotte, and I do a lot, I get off I-85 at GA53, go by Road Atlanta to Gainesville, take GA 369 until it deadends into GA 20 just east of Canton and follow GA 20 to Rome. There are a few tricky turns in Canton and Cartersville and the bypass around Rome. But if you google the route, you can get good maps of these spots. The road signs are well marked. We travel this road alot since there is a grandson in Cumming, relatives in Gainesville, inlaws in NC, Lewis in Canton, etc. We bypass Atlanta every chance we get. I 285 may be fast, but not my cup of tea, especially in a small car I don't want scratched. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif)

Too bad I am not bringing the track car. It has "wide" race seats as I am same size as you. I changed out my first seat after getting stuck in a small one. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif)

But it has a burned up clutch that needs fixing anyway.

BBQ!!!!!

If you want the classic Memphis experience, the "rendevous" downtown has famous dry rub ribs.
There are others for a different experience-
Gridely's, Interstate, BBQ Shop...

See you tomorrow! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I've put a few essentials (JACK-STANDS, of course), floor jack, little compressor, some car washing stuff, battery charger, and whatever else seems possibly needed in my truck and will take that over later and stash it at the Marriott. I gotta go look in the garage and see what else i should grab.

Bob,

It's the Officer's Club... so I will likely be wearing a coat and tie.

I'm not the fashion police. Pack what you want to pack. Shorts and flip-flops if that works for you!

There is no dress code - we're not the Porsche Parade. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

what's funny about the Parade thing is that more than 1/2 of the people were very casual. and honestly? Nobody cared!!

Anyway, thanks for the info. I was asked, so I figured I'd find an answer. and no, Nadine is not too fashion conscious, just doesn't want to stand out too bad... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Looking forward to being there tomorrow!!
