I like the Medford idea. I know I could get an area for autoX in Medford. I also can get a place for trailers to sit while we are out of town on drives. Here is a general idea.
1st- Friday night meet & greet 2nd- Saturday drive to redwoods on 101 then north to CoosBay where we would stay the night. I thought Yerts on the beach with a BBQ would be killer. In town hotel for those that wouldn't like the Yerts 3rd- Sunday morning drive thru Reedsport (breakfast stop) Then head back towards the 5 with a great photo op on that hwy at the wild life preserve. There are always Elk there right next to the road & plenty of parking. From there onto Crater Lake. Back to the hotel in Medford 4th- Monday AutoX in Medford .help needed wih the course & someone to General the whole AutoX. Anyway that was the basics of it. Things would change as needed but the drives are kick ass. I would be willing to plan it along with some fellow Oregonians (Todd & anyone else who wants to help). I'm not opposed to somewhere else just thought this was very centralized. I think the turnout could rival any previous WCR because of it. Still I'm good if it is somewhere else & I don't have to plan it. I like the idea of it being in the coastal states. If we move inland it's cool too. Well fire away with your thought guys (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) |

I live in Ashland (10 miles south of Medford) and could help (not be in charge!). Drive to Redwoods is 2 1/2 to 3 hours but the road through the Smith River Canyon (CA 199) is made for 914's. There are big trees near Crescent City but it is another hour to the main groves. A redwood trip would be a full day.
Crater Lake would be another great run but also take a day. The Lake just opened last week with lots of snow still there so this is a better trip mid-summer or fall. The Jackson County Sports Park is a fantastic AX venue (Kart track) used by the local SCCA group. I suspect we could reserve it on a weekday and maybe even on a weekend depending on the time of year. More likely booked on summer weekends. |

I'd be fine with either Medford or Tahoe.
A run around Lake Tahoe would be fun, plus there is the Reno-Fernley racetrack not far away. Plus, there's always the casino's at stateline...how much trouble could a bunch of elderly quasi-Porsche owners get into anyways?!? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

After playing in the heat the last couple of days of the WCR, I vote for somwhere it's cool so we can enjoy our drives. Vegas sounds HOT as HELL, although I'm sure it would be fun. well then come back up to the pnw! If I remember correctly, at the last one in Portland my tires almost melted when we ran "over the hill, and down the river" must have been 100+.....not my idea of cool..... |

Least likely to be booked & much cheaper during the week. I thought the redwood & Crater lake might be a bit much. We could still do the redwoods run & stay in Coos bay. Then loop around back towards medford. I know of a few winery's on the route back from Reedsport on the sunday. Not my thing but I have noticed some of our fellow teeners don't mind tipping back a bottle every now & then (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drunk.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) |

Being that next year is the 40 anniversary of the 914, ... I just need to correct this one ... this year is the 40 anniversary of the 914 1969 -> 2009 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) this is why the new Porsche Museum presented both 914-8 for a while this is why the big international 914 Meeting in Bad Honnef (Germany) is under the motte "40 Jahre 914) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bye1.gif) Gustl |

Plenty of Redwoods to see, maybe picnic at Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. Crater Lake is even closer. About 80 miles away. Some very nice roads en route, unless you get caught behind an RV. The Red Lion in Medford looks like a possibility. The Shilo has 48 rooms... maybe we could just rent the whole place (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) The corporate rate is $59.46 I gotta get back to editing photos. |

First of all I think Tahoe and Medford are great venues. The only other one I can think of that may be better is...................
MONTEREY! Cool weather, great drives, Golf, plenty of tourist stuff for families like the Aqaurium, Cannery Row, 17 mile drive, wine tasting in the Carmel Valley. etc. and of course.............................LAGUNA SECA and Marina airport AutoX venue!!!!!!!!! About 400 miles closer than Irvine for the PNW folks. 350 miles from SoCal, 900 miles from Seattle, 90 miles from most points in the SF Bay area, 900 miles from Utah, Several Airports within 2 hours for those not bringing a 914, Large 914 support contingent. I'm willing to take lead on Monterey. Is someone going to organize Tahoe if that is the consensus? With that being said, I am sure Jamie and Todd could put on a great WCR in Medford. Let the people decide! Jim |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) Laguna Seca is probably impossible. It is actually a city or county park now and they only allow racing a few times a year to keep the noise and traffic down for the locals who live across from the entrance. Unless you cuddle up to an organization like Trackmasters or NASA... Get your group their own run group etc... |

Did they actually sell model year 1969 914's? |
