As I said earlier in the thread, I'm willing to split planning duties if Tahoe is chosen. I just don't know the other places well enough to make suggestions, etc but if info is needed, I can certainly help wherever needed.
I would even make the sacrifice of driving Paul's 914 up to Tahoe as many times as needed to firm up any loose ends:) |

Brett,
Be at the Reunion event. We are going to talk over the possibility of forming an event by committee... McMark is planning on coming, Paul as well... Maybe we can even get Michael to come! Al Weidman too. |

Tahoe, Medford, Monterey, ?.........is all good but I think someone made a good point about rotation of states. and technically speaking the Horizon is in Nevada, not even a coastal state. And nobody but Paul has said they will help organize Tahoe Just my thoughts. I hear the two or three people who have said that Tahoe is not coastal. But then, when I was in Portland I never saw water. When I was in Santa Rosa I never saw water. Yes, they were coastal but that really wasn't relevent. Besides, if you have never seen Tahoe let me just say it might as well be an ocean. You cannot see across in most places. Four years ago, we were in Oregon, then Santa Rosa, then Seattle, and most recently LA area. Behind the scenes, we have brought up Tahoe for a number of years. If you haven't been there it is breathtaking beautiful. You can gamble, see shows, go on boat excursions, fish, at least 1000 restaurants, a curvy ride that takes most of a day, the hotels have allowed other groups to have autocross events in the lots, car shows etc... True, you haven't heard anyone but Paul say he would help organize but that doesn't mean action hasn't been taking place in the background. We have a group of three to five getting together next weekend. As for Nevada not being a coastal state, we really think of Nevada as a California tax shelter. You want property there so you can claim it as your primary residence. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

The West Coast Wramble in 2002 was in Reno. We took a drive around Tahoe, IIRC. Had dinner in (I think) the Peterson auto museum. Very cool. Rich Herzog (ArtechnicA) put it on.

I think that the point they are making is that it is the West COAST Ramble... I'm not opposed to Tahoe, but they have a valid point. As far as I'm concerned, the best part of the Ramble is the parking lot BS sessions. Who has the nicest parking lot? |

Well, if not planned as a West 'Coast' Ramble event, maybe we could still come up with a 'Tahoe Teener' gathering as an additional special event (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) (just don't make it a mid winter event) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

If Tahoe isn't west coast, where is it? Midwest? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
What if it's on the California side of Tahoe? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) |

I'm fine with Tahoe if that's what everyone wants. Like I said I don't have to plan it that way. I think it is like a 9 hour drive for me to Tahoe. That's almost half as far as this years. I certainly won't complain about that (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) . The 17 hours one way kind of stunk. Still worth it though (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) WCR was a blast

That was my thought too...Tahoe is pretty easy to get to coming from both directions. Both 80 and 50 pass within miles of the lakes and I know both of those highways go all the way across the US. I never looked at the West Coast Ramble from a "coast" point of view, I always thought it meant "West Coast" as in any state in the pacific time zone. Rob, I'll be there next weekend. |

I would just hope that when we get to the point of consensus the location or locations isn't surrounded by freeways. I love this years event, just all that traffic made me feel like a rat in an Indiana Jones movie (Irvine). The Lancaster location however, although not as "cushy" was more relaxed and more 914 friendly... and an AX track 30 minutes away--perfect.
While we're kicking the tires for next year, each location is only as good as it's planners. Joe and his support team put a lot of work into this year's WCR seen and unseen, like any West Coast event would require. Perhaps when it comes time to choose, we could have a little background/possible sceario from the planners of each location?? Then Vote. Please don't vote if you really don't think coming is a reality for you. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) PS Joe will you cook wherever it ends-up?...you spoiled us this year with the food. I agree re: freeways. While it's not the controlling factor, as a primitive Oregonian (I-5 is about all we got) I found the CA freeways to be a bit intimidating in a 914. Tahoe would be great in my view. Northwesterners can get there with minimal I-5 driving while touring some great two lane mountain roads.

That is one of the nice things about Tahoe. It does have traffic going around the Lake but it moves. Interstate 80 passes 10 miles to the North, Hwy 50 hugs the Lake to the South and both bring you to the Lake from whatever direction you are coming from.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) He's not kidding...went camping there last year at the end of July. Got up and was on the road home by 10am Sunday and it still took 3.5 hours to get to Sacramento. Steady stream of traffic around the lake. I would say we need to talk to some locals about the best time for the 'round the lake drive. |

That's a long haul. But Tahoe is definitely going to be more attractive to me and I would think for a lot of folks east... my $.02 As long as I'm here, there is no "rule" that says it has to be on the coast. I think that the point they are making is that it is the West COAST Ramble... I'm not opposed to Tahoe, but they have a valid point. I think my Mind Reading Superhero power was malfunctioning so I missed all the behind the scenes action among members here (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) Traffic in the Tahoe area can be brutal, but there are many factors for that and if the right time of year is chosen most can eliminated. The Nevada side is generally less crowded once you get away from the Casinos. Their certainly is something to offer to everyone. Good thing we arent going here: the border towns of West Wendover, NV (near Utah) and Jackpot, NV (near Idaho) because they are not in the Pacific time zone. Oh, and I am putting in my vote for Arizona for the following year as long as we go in the summer as they are effectively the same as Pacific Daylight Time zone for most of the summer. Of course then a name change may be in order, and I will suggest "Western States Wramble" or similiar (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Unless the "Big One" hits then Nevada and Arizona will be the "Coast"! At the Horizon I dont think there is gonna be too much drinking going on in the parking lot during the BS Sessions. the "eye in the sky" watches everyone, everywhere! Maybe the hotel will provide a place for all the shenanigans to take place though. Wherever it is in 2010 I will be there! The offer still stands for Monterey if the other locations don't happen.
