If you need a transmission rebuilt now is the time! Mike (Dr. Evil) and I are planning a short notice tranny clinic in Ontario Canada.
Date and details has not yet been set so start thinking! It will be short notice, as in real soon! We have 4 transmissions already so things are looking good! Go to Mike's vendor thread and look at the prices and details, For us Canadians the price is a steal and did I mention he will do it at PAR! The USD price is what you pay in Loonies! Shipping to the USA would be the price of labour! Or more! If you can't be here I will P/U from greyhound which is the cheapest way to ship something this size http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=56892 If you guy's want I'll revive the Por'Volks Festival for a small 914 only show and shine and BYO BBQ (I might need some help for this) while Mike is here. This is a one time deal. Mike is a real Doctor now and he's going to retire from transmissions very soon. You snooze you lose. Start digging those dusty cores out! BTW I'm away for the weekend, I hope to see some Canadian peeps chimming in on this when I get back! Cheers Mark (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) |

I'll keep an eye for date and location. The transmission for my '73 2.0 is currently sitting beside the car while the restoration continues so this could work out perfect.

I cant wait. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
Just to make perfectly clear (in US English (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) ) Cost will be $300 loonies per person that brings one or more gear boxes. Yes, $300 and you can bring as many as you can rebuild. Bring too many and dont get through them all, then you brought too many (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Spectating is free. I love BBQ I can come up as soon as the last weekend in Sept. The rest of Sept is booked. The 1st weekend in Oct can be available, the second is booked, the third is booked. The rest of the time is pretty open, but I will be trying to drive the bus so nicer weather is best (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Sounds like a great idea Mark. I've got a spare in unknown condition that I could add to the mix.
In any case it would be a good excuse for a get together and meet the legendary Doc! Maybe have the swepco guy bring some gear oil? |

Well, depends on where in Ontario. Southern Ontario, I would be very interested as I would be coming from Buffalo. Of course, the wife is due at the end of September, so that may complicate things as well.

Cool. I will keep watching for the date. Dr. Evil needs a passport to enter Canada though.

Pro tip: Don't tell the guys at the border you are planning on doing any work here.
Oh, and a quick shift into 2nd from first causes a grind... worn syncro? Edit: Last weekend in Sept and first weekend in Oct are fine with me. |

Your grind could be many things, including a synchro, sliders, band, external tranny stuff that if not corrected will cause problems in the aforementioned parts (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Very interesting, since my parts are already in the mail from the Dr.
What does the $300 cover? Will you be bringing a good supply of spare parts? Do we bring our own tools or will Mark have enough for everyone? Can I drive my car down(600 miles), pull the tranny, rebuild it, install it and drive it back home in one day??? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) |

Doug,
The $300 is the fee for me teaching you how to rebuild your gear box. If I do it on my own it is $500 normally. You would need to bring your own tools, except for the special ones that I will bring (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) All you need is a 13mm socket, wratchet, 14mm socket, thats about it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) As for you driving down, dropping, fixing, and reinstalling, I am ok with that as I can come up early on Fri if you can make it and if Mark is ok with that. Or, we can drag on into Mon. Either way is fine with me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I see that Mark's place is 8hrs away, totally within my driving range (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

I see you said one day. Yes, this is possible, but you will have to show early and leave late as problems tend to pop up. Figure 8hrs for the tranny rebuild (less if you and I hit it together) 1hr to pull the tranny, 1hr to place the tranny.
I have all the parts you need to do this. I am psyched. Figure out which weekend I am coming and lets do this! |

I was kidding about the driving down and pulling in one day. I'd pull it ahead of time and drive down the night before, if I can get the time off work.
Sounds like a good time. |

My shop will be open, I have tools (many doubles), can have a bunch of benches ready and have 2 acres of lawn for camping. Mike has a room ready or he can set up his camper. We'll make a weekend of it then afterwards Mike can explore at bit of the area. There is a couple of B&B's here, but hotels are 20-30min away.
Anyone in Canada who has a 914 or serious project car should be jumping all over this. I know of the semi-local guy who does them...I think his name is Ben Dover. Get that spare box done, I know you guys are cheap and this will be as cheap as it gets! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Oh ....and I'm back but quite busy. |

Hmmm my only space box is a tail shifter, but the running car is a side shifter.....
