I've been talking with a few people about the lack of progress on any of my cars. I have a buddy who has a Cadillac project that he's been storing for over 10 years. So we were comparing experiences and both decided the purging the excess projects is the only responsible thing to do. I have 4 914 projects a BMW 2002 project and my wife's 912 project. I've realized that I'll be more effective if I have only one project at a time.

It's been an extremely hard decision, but I know I'm making the right move. I'm actually excited about working on my gold car and building up the 2.4 twin turbo engine for that.

I wanted to post something because I will be posting these extra cars up on the site and didn't want people to think I was disappearing.

Here's the projects I started that are unfortunately getting the axe:
73 Marathon Blue Metallic
72 Aubergine (Factory Custom)
2270 Turbo Engine Build
73 BMW 2002

Nice looking 2002. GLWS.

We seem to be on a parallel path as I recently came to the same epiphany.

agree.gif It truly is a sickness. I've slowly been doing the same. My 68 Chrysler will be the next to go. Probably get the trans done, and in primer then let it go. Time to focus on the Jeep, 914 and 911 and Model A, and BMW, and Oval window, and Thing mellow.gif

And probably for a damn good reason, I'd guess... idea.gif The time honored adage, Happy wife, happy life perhaps?

Tell us (me) about the 2002.

It's basically a painted roller. Buy up a stock drivetrain and go driving. It's got a lot of little things that were done wrong, but that don't really affect the car. It's a drivers car, not a restoration basis.

I know what one is facing and how hard it is to eliminate projects. Sometimes feels like "failure" on my part for not completing the projects, moving back and forth on the projects (not getting anything completed), etc. What I use to get done on handling several projects at once is no longer accomplished.

With time, I have slowed down and am thinking about eliminating several projects. The Jeep, Alfa Romeo, and Corvette will be eliminated thus reducing my total cars from five to two, and then adding a third car for my wife. I need to clean up commentments and make life simpler.

I am working on the Alfa to get in long distance driving condition and then drive it to Kansas giving it to my nephew; The Corvette will be sold/traded in; the Jeep sold; and the Porsche 914-sizer will be kept for completion and driving enjoyment.

In the end, I should have my Pickup, Trailer, Porsche, and my wife's driver.
This makes like very simple. Any more cars to be added will be with the elimination of the present ones owned. I love projects but it has come to my time in life where I have to make things simple and easily maintained.

I now want to drive and enjoy rather than have continuous projects to be completed.

We bought TWO Airstream Motorhomes in quick succession and never worked too much on either. We became overwhelmed and things ground to a halt. Now, one is gone, and the better one will move forward. They are nice motorhomes, just like the trailers.

agree.gif 2002's are totally a drivers car. Your going to miss that one Mark. But hey, your in Cali. There's lots of them there.

Yeah I HATE to let the 2002 go, but I need to realistic. And as you say, there are plenty here. Especially because I recently realized I prefer the square tail light models.

Last year I got rid of everything. I sold and gave away the surplus. I now have a 75 914 that I will be using for a weekend fun. No tare downs past what I can finish in a weekend. I want to PLAY at this point.

I expect he'll get plenty of time driving mine before we're done. 8)
