Would one of the newer engines fit in a 914? Are they the same basic block or is everything different?
Bob L.
Being water cooled it would be a completely different block.

Would it fit? confused24.gif

I would not do it. You would need an engine and a boxster transmission to make it work. If you look online, the boxster engines are really hard to find because they are failing and all the boxster drivers want them. Plus you have to deal with the computer control issues and the addition of a radiator and the plumbing... all for an engine that develops about the same HP as the air cooled engines.

If you want to put in a water cooled flat six, use the subaru engine. More reliable and cheaper.

PELICAN PARTS THREAD

Go to the last of the thread he has the car running and driving. Looks like allot of work.

If you want an engine with 27 modes of failure, go ahead!

I think that either a LS or Suby would make more sense if you want to go water cooled.

The only thing left for the Boxster conversion is to convert the 914 body to a Boxster body.... then its done. chair.gif

I've ridden in Bob's three liter Suby , he still will not let me drive it????, it's fast strong, plenty of revs and sounds great.. About 215 hp and hits that sweet spot, plenty of power but not scarily fast....

Motors are available and inexpensive, fit great , and tranny has multiple options...if I had it to do over , I would have gone with the six...

Well a GT3 engine would be a different story (power/reliability). I think it would be sweet to see somebody do that.
