We have been getting a lot of requests for a (more or less) official 914World grille badge lately and after discussing this with the other admins, i think it's time to move forward with it.

I'd like to make this a open design contest where anyone can submit their designs and we'll pick a winner by popular vote.


There are just a few rules:

- The badge can NOT contain any trademarked items like the word PORSCHE, the Porsche crest or the Porsche font

- The design must be 914 related

- The design must fit on a badge

I'll throw an Original Customs shirt into the award package (only availAble in select sizes).

Must fit on a badge? Are there specific maximum dimensions?

On most badges i have seen the usable space is between 3 and 4 inches in diameter.

As a starter this is exactly what came to mind when I read this:

Perfect example of what you are looking for?

I've always liked the window decals with the World Globe in the background, and 914 World across the globe. Here's a sample for an up and coming artist:

3" diameter is a standard.

I can't photo shop or draw worth beans so I'm out of the design contest. The world is where it's at. Maybe with Sir Andy's red Mohawk.

Does the badge have to be round? (scalloped or gear edge?)
Is there a limit on the number of colors?
Any other design limits or criteria from the supplier?

What is the deadline for submissions?

I'm not sure about color choices, we would need someone with more experience in producing badges to chime in here.

But my guess would be that you can't have any fine detail since they look to be enamel and i do know that fine details are not possible with that process.

I have been told that 3" is the standard diameter of the usable area, regardless of the edge design of the badge.


I have an idea myself, i'll probably have a mockup ready in a day or two.

Also, there really is no deadline for this. I'd like to get several designs in and then have the collective vote on them.

Badges should be limited to about 10 colors to be easier to produce, you can have a pretty good detail, down to about 3/32", the problem is the detail is lost over 5' away. Take the 10 city German badge.

My favorite, elusive, been looking for one of these for several years...

Just a thought- probably a serious PITA & too expensive, but color matching badges?

Maybe you can make square badges for the cayman guys

It may not be an official entry but that's pretty bada$$ looking and you might have entered yourself accidentally.

I'm liking the unofficial entry badge. As a "Vereinsmitglied" (club member), this is way cool. My two Pfennings worth.

You can't use someone else's artwork without their explicit permission.

Porsche AG said this design is NOT acceptable back in 1998, I am sure they would still not approve.

Andy, I like your design too. Not sure how it may translate to a metal badge but it would make cool stickers and t shirts.

I recommend you offer the design in different color combinations. Maybe 2 or 3 colors per design so it would be easy to do silk screen shirts.///custom stickers would be cool.

Jaime (oldschool) can do the shirts...I offer to do the stickers or decals.

Personally would love a black one with lime green trim to match my car!

Looking at my mockups it seems they'd work better as stickers ...

I don't get the German...most people won't get the German..is it that cool explaining it to questioners, or having a badge that most can't read...not to me ...design is great otherwise..although I get a chuckle out of " lets have a design contest ..here's the winner "

I'm not down with this without Rustys' approval.

So for time frame entries due by Nov 20th sound good. I know there are a few creative types that haven't been around (BKLA), dropped him a heads up on this one. Hope to see some pretty cool stuff.

I was going to do a few too. 20th sounds good. After SEMA I'll need a few days to clone the hdd in the desktop to the replacement drive. Random reboots suck.

Just throwing this out there but instead of the german translation of club member you put your individual club member name. It would be personal to you...one of a kind.

It would drive up costs though.................

I like the German wording. I can find out what it means later. After all, it is a German car. As for the color. I would substitute the Gold w/ Yellow. BTW, all colors should be 914 colors, yes?
